Celiac disease?

Would the itialian word for celiac disease be acilico? I have an Italian foreign exchange student in my biology class, and she asked me about a disease in which people couldn't digest carbs like in certain breads and pasta. She only knew the Italian name (acilico). I told her I wasn't aware of any disease in which a person couldn't digest carbs, but I knew there was one (celiac disease) in which people couldn't digest gluten (which is in a lot of the carbs she mentioned), but I couldn't remember the name of the disorder until she left class. Anyway, it's been a while since my Latin, so I was hoping to get some help from a bi-lingual health professional. Are these two things (acilico and celiac) the same? All help is appreciated.

It is a little strange I can't seem to find the word acilico in my Loescher Dizionario della lingua Italiano.

Your friend may be using a common term for Celìaco which is the Italian fro a medical condition where people have problems absorbing fats and carbohydrates, which can cause problems with nutrition. Thought this is usually found in children.

However I have noted than is seems very common here in Italy for people to have problems with the digestion of gluten, or intolerance of gluten as they would describe it, so I would guess more it that direction.

    ADDED

The the does not exist here in Italy, I have just ask 5 of my Italian friends and they said they had not idea what it could mean and they further check the dictionary.

Celìaco seems to be the closest and it is used for an intolerance to Gluten.

So I would say it must be that.
