Olympic Coverage?

I know this person who claims that ESPN will be covering the Olympics in Beijing, China this year. Is this true? I thought it was NBC.

What your friend must have heard is the ESPN will expand their coverage of the Olympics during Sports Center since for the 1st time ever they will be allowed to show clips of the events. NBC is still the only network showing Olympic sports in the USA.

In the past ESPN would only give a summary of what happened and maybe a few interviews, but as the years went on Olympics got less and less coverage on Sports Center. After all Sports Center needs highlights or whats the point of giving it coverage.

You see in the past NBC as the official broadcaster would not allow any other network to show video clips of the Olympics. If you ask me this was very shortsighted as for many modern sports fans in the USA if it doesn't make the top 10 in Sports Center then it it's out of sight and mind.

It is on NBC and I love NBC's coverage. I love the John Williams Olympic theme song.

NBC, and their affiliates like CNBC and MSNBC, have the exclusive rights to cover the Olympics on television. ESPN is not an NBC affiliate, so tell your friend he is wrong.
