Do what is important first.
Then,
Drink hot chocolate, or coffee depending on the time of day. Draw or write something that will distract me or express myself.
And at the end of every stressful day, call my sister who loves me.

If it is a 'minor' stress then I can usually grab a hot bath with a book... If no time for a bath then I will just shut off all noise (TV, Computer Speakers, Exc.) and lay on my bed with a book.
If I can focus on someone ELSES story I can usually stop the stress in my own head from overwhelming me.
If it is BIG stress... Like can't pay the bills or the IRS showing up at my door... I start having panic attacks and nightmares so I take Alprazolam. (It has saved my life.)
When I get a cycle of negative thoughts I have a Mantra to think or say... It can be as simple as "NO!" or "Stop" or even "Kiplin" (The name of my cat.) Something, anything that can shock me out of my thought cycle or make me picture something cute like my cat that calms me down.
Over the last 2 months I have been an emotional wreck... I am lucky I can dress myself and force myself to do what little I can do... I would almost call it a "Disability" in that it is stopping me from being able to have anything close to a normal life...
That takes medication...
But when I'm lucid I can usually calm down with some water and a good book... Or some anime... There is ALWAYS anime! LOL!

I learned that the root of stress is usually some personal issue that we are ignoring about ourselves. We react to what is happening in our daily lives with coping mechanisms of our own that may or may not be effective and healthy. When we postpone looking at the issues bothering us and doing anything else but dealing with it head on in the moment, we set ourselves up for a doozie of a problem later in life. They never just go away, they have to be resolved before we can move on.
Here's an example: What to do with your stress? Ask yourself what is stressing you? Too many things in your schedule? Reduce your schedule. Why don't you want to reduce your schedule? Workaholic? Fear of failure? Too many people count on you? What is the payback for you?
Now you see what I mean by the issues behind the stress.
Sorry to seem preachy but I have been through this. And it ain't pretty.

There's a lot of different ways to relieve stress. I,personally, like going to the gym and working out. It makes me stop thinking about anything that's bothering me.

See stress treatments, at *ezy-build, below on page 42. Practise daily, one of the relaxation techniques on pages 2, 11, 2c, or 2i; whichever works best for you, but the mindfulness breathing for 15 - 20 mns is ideal, although the progressive muscle relaxation can be learned quickly, and takes only several minutes, if pressed for time. Employ the EFT version for use in public, for which you can reasonably claim that you have a headache, as you massage/tap your temples, but it may be advisable to restrict yourself to subvocalising (saying it to yourself, in your mind, not aloud). Section 53, and pages 2, 2.q and 2.o refer. "Even though I sometimes suffer from stress, I deeply and completely accept myself". You can also multitask, using the gazing technique, as you walk/jog or exercise, by focusing on a distant object, noting any thoughts which flash across your mind, without pursuing any particular train of thought, just gently redirect your focus to the gazing. Yoga, or Tai Chi may suit others, better. Take 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, daily, replacing 2 of them with cod liver oil supplements, or a teaspoonful of the oil (I spread mine on toast, and mask its strong taste with fishpaste, and pepper), in the winter months only, and eat healthily, in accordance with your "nutritional type" as determined at http://www.mercola.com/ SEARCHBAR. http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris*
