I have a PowerBook G4 laptop with a freezing problem..?

I have a PowerBook G4 laptop, but now it seems to freeze whenever I started up. It does boots correctly, but even slowly, then, after the apple logo in white background, it just stopped(with a blue screen and a mouse pointer on it) without anything happens or loaded. However the mouse still can be moved. There is no icons, no background, no applications and anything on the display. Just the blue screen and a mouse pointer.

I just want to know what's wrong because I have been restarting and rebooting it up to several times with no results.

Please help.

you're not booting correctly is the problem. i had this problem with my g4 desktop. had to re-install the operating system. if you have the original install disks just put them in and follow the directions. you should be able to preserve your old settings and files in an 'archival users' folder or some name like that. it's an option when re-installing original os. however, sometimes this just perpetuates the problem and you truly have to wipe the hd and start from scratch.

i've also had this problem on my g5 emacs at school. a simple re-image usually does the trick.

if you want to safely backup your hd connect the laptop to another mac via firewire and target boot the laptop (hold down t key while booting up until firewire symbol shows up on screen). this will effectively turn your laptop into an external hd. you can then use the other mac to backup your files (photos, music, etc.) onto another hd, dvd, or whatever.

if you have access to another mac you can use that same process to restore the laptop. target boot then put the original restore disks in the other mac and restore to the laptop. sounds a little complicated i know but it's actually pretty easy. i have a mac lab at school and i image and repair all my own computers.

    good luck.

Make sure that when you hold C you do so right after the startup sound, not before or it won't recognize that the key is down. The same for the other button commands. If it doesn't work again, try unplugging the computer and removing the battery (located on the bottom) Use a nickel to unlock it. Wait a couple of minutes and try again. Hope this works, otherwise bring it to your closest Authorized Mac Dealer
