Is this violating copyright laws?

If I get a song from Everclear and make a music video,in which their music is playing, do I violate any laws? The music comes from one of their cds.

Update:

What if I post it on a website?

If you post it on the internet it is a copyright infringement. Even though you are not benefiting financially from posting the music your video could be downloaded by others which results in multiple copies of the music being distributed without the songwriter royalties being paid. That equals copyright infringement.

If you only use it for viewing in your own home without profit there should be no problem. You haven't "published" it or made it public.

I produced a music video show for 8 years. Although I had permission from the record companies, they did not mind me making a music video using any of their songs. As long as you are not making any money off it. I don't see a problem for your creativity.

Yes. They own the song. If it's just for personal use then it's doubtful that anyone wants to prosecute you. However, if you distribute it, sell it or make money from it you could have problems.

I am not a lawyer. Only licensed lawyers can give legal advise.

Yes, it is, but if it's for a class project or something similar, I don't think it will be a problem since you aren't trying to earn money on it. (My older niece made a song from one of Miley Cirus song's for the function of the nervous system fro a project.) If you're in any way trying to make money from it or even promote yourself or a band, they won't be amused and they could sue.

I wouldnt think so as long as you dont sell them. I should know, I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night! I will take a #2 Miller Lite soap on a rope!

If its for your home viewing and you dont plann on making copies to make a profit I wouldnt worry about that.

No! You only violate it if you try to sell it or post it on YouTube.
