2008 Fantasy Baseball Keeper League Who Should I Keep? MLB?
I have to decide soon who I will be keeping for my fantasy baseball keeper league. I am forced to keep at least 7 players from last season, and can keep up to a maximum of 10. I came in first place last year, and am looking to repeat. The league has 20 categories (offense/pitching/defense), which I think is a little too much (R, HR, RBI, SB, A, E, FPCT, AVG, OBP, SLG, W, L, CG, SHO, SV, HR, K, GIDP, ERA, WHIP)
Also the league is position specific, which means I need every position filled by someone with that eligibility. I need a LF, CF, RF, and need to fill an OF spot, all the infield positions, as well as an IF.
Last year this is what my team looked like:
C Jason Varitek
1B Ryan Howard
2B Brandon Phillips
3B Ryan Zimmerman
SS Hanley Ramirez
IF Prince Fielder
LF Matt Holliday
CF Curtis Granderson
RF Nick Markakis
OF Carlos Lee
My pitching staff was Sabathia, K. Escobar, Oswalt, Haren, and Papelbon.
I'm definitely keeping 10 players, but not sure which ones

wow, you have several 1st rounders on your team so you look good to repeat as Champ. how many teams are in this league?
these guys are solid & will go 1st round in any draft (unless you play fallacy baseball - ahhhhhhh)
1B Ryan Howard
SS Hanley Ramirez
IF Prince Fielder
LF Matt Holliday
the next 4
2B Brandon Phillips - let's hope the Lizard doesn't ruin him
OF Carlos Lee
SP CC Sabathia
RP Papelbon
several of the rest of the guys are keeper worthy but if you look at this as a draft instead of a keeper, here you are in the 9th round & only have 1 SP & 1 RP. with out know how many teams are in this league & not having a general idea of who is keeping what. i'd say you need to keep a pitcher or 2. Haren for sure & maybe Oswalt but i think his better days are behind him.
i'd definatly keep those 8, if you have any idea what the other teams are keeping.... or better yet who they are letting go, i'd make my final decision then. if you keep 10 & everyone else is keeping 7, then you won't be drafting for a couple rounds while other teams are "catching up" i.e. drafting their 8, 9 & 10 spots. Granderson & Markakis won't be around by the time you get to draft.

If we're keeping ten on your say-so, then here's my ten keepers.
1B: Ryan Howard KEEPER1
2B: Brandon Phillips KEEPER2
SS: Hanley Ramirez KEEPER3
IF: Prince Fielder KEEPER4
LF: Matt Holliday KEEPER5
RP: Jonathan Papelbon KEEPER6
OF: Carlos Lee KEEPER7
SP: C.C. Sabathia KEEPER8
SP: Roy Oswalt KEEPER9
SP: Dan Haren KEEPER10
CF: Curtis Granderson KEEPER11
Hmmm.. appears I have one too many. I would drop Curtis Granderson from the lot I selected. With 3 SPs kept, that'll give you the best balance going into 2008.

1 - Hanley Ramirez
2 - Matt Holliday
3 - Ryan Howard
4 - Prince Fielder
5 - Brandon Phillips
6 - Jonathan Papelbon
7 - Carlos Lee
8 - C.C. Sabathia
9 - Curtis Granderson (hitting in that line up, I'd consider keeping him over Lee actually)
10 - Dan Haren (this was a toss up between him and Oswalt)

I am thinking in terms of usual draft positions: 1. A-Rod 2. Braun 3. Granderson 4. Pence. This will give you a solid Offensive foundation. the first two are a no brainer. Granderson is a good all around player with lots of extra base hits and speed. Pence calls a hitters park home which in limited time last year proved he can be a monster. There are a lot of good pitchers out there so keeping Hamels would rob you of vital offensive stats. Plus you could pick up someone like Hamels if you absolutely love the guy around the 4th or 5th round in a keeper draft.

No Brainers
1) Howard
2) Phillips
3) Han Ram
4) Prince
5) Holiday
6) Lee
7) CC
8) Paplebon
I like Markakis' 5 tools and think he'll take another step forward this year, after that it comes down to Granderson or Haren, I little more pitching is probably a good thing given your other keepers so I might go with Haren as #10 but you'd still be safe with Granderson
9) Markakis
10) Haren

Keep Howard, C.Lee, Holliday, Fielder, Hanley, CC, Oswalt, Papelbon, Markakis and Haren...
V-Tek has become replaceable, Phillips is decent but they'll be better options. Zimmerman I might keep over Haren or Markakis. forget about Granderson
