Trouble Sleeping?

Ok so I'm 16 and lately I haven't been able to fall asleep until 3 am or later (Around 5 am). Then I don't wake up until 11 am or 1 in the afternoon.

There's been a few nights where I only get one hour sleep, wake up early the next day and still can't get to sleep before 3 am.

I have been stressed lately, a lot has been going on at home here. So I know that has something to do with me not being able to sleep.

I've tried relaxing music, no noise in the room at all, sleeping with a little light on, sleeping in pitch black, sleeping with the window open a tad, reading a book, reading a boring book, watching tv.... none of it works.

This not being able to sleep has been affecting my school work too I think, that or my math has actually gotten a lot harder to learn. I'm cranky, many simple things seem to **** me off. I tend to want to cry more for the most weird reasons. (And it's not pms -_-)

Any ideas of how I can get to sleep before 3 am??

Thanks!!

Update:

I've tried exercise, I've tried meditating, it doesn't work...

I have a really hard time falling asleep too. You've tried most of what I would suggest, but a few more things to try-

    - Don't watch t.v. or go online for about an hour before you go to bed. Something about the way things move on the screen stimulates our brains.

    - Take a warm bath right before bed. Warming up and then cooling down tells our bodies that it's time for sleep. Try the bath with lavender scented bath beads - it is a relaxing smell that helps shut our brain downs for the night.

    - If white noise doesn't bother you, try using a sound machine (a machine that makes waterfall/stream/etc. sounds).

    - For the stress, try writing down your problems along with ways to fix them.

    - Try daydreaming about something pleasant and relaxing as you lay in bed.

    - Finally, if all else fails, try staying awake all night and all day. By the second night you will be so exhausted you will fall right asleep and, if your bodies internal clock is off, like it sounds like it might be, then hopefully this will put it back on track.

I truly hope this helps; good luck!

Take care of a 3 year old for a full day and you'll have no trouble sleeping! I am joking - I know it's not funny. I know your pain. I have narcolepsy - it's a problem because it makes me extremely tired all day (like you, cranky, etc.) I actually take Provigil (medicine) to keep me alert through the day. But I can sleep at night. The only thing that helps me relax enough to aid in the sleeping at night is taking a hot bath. Oh last thing - when I was younger and struggled sleeping I decided to pray and that really seemed to help. I hope you start sleeping better. If you have any unfinished tasks, lists of things to do - make sure you get that junk done or else you may stay up worrying or thinking about things. Take care!

Some one once said that your room should be only for sleeping, not watching tv or things like that. But since you are teen and your room is more then likely the only room you really spend time in that would be a little hard for you..

But you could try not doing your homework in your room.

Try setting a time at night that you will start getting ready for bed,. No caffeen, No food with caffeen, things that might keep you up..

Take a hot bath or hot shower. Maybe some warm milk, (gross but sometimes it works.).

Try to meditate or do some Yoga before you get into bed.

You also need to find out what is making you stressed and fix it..

Not being able to sleep is the worst.

Try looking at CVS in the sleep aide aisle Hylands makes an all natural herbal pill to help you relax - it's not addictive or bad for you so it's worth trying.

Also before bed take a hot bath and drink some night time tea.

You may need to talk to your doctor about your lack of sleep

and get a sleep aide or something for your anxiety.

Try wearing your self out, If you cant sleep then do sleep.. stay up all night if you have too, by the next night you will be out like a light. Do it on a off day when you have nothing to do and you can just hang around the house. Also... stop worrying!! Close your door also... NO light! No music.. just you and well YOU! and close you eyes and do not open them.. it iwll happen just relax

Maybe try and be more active earlier in the day. Did you try exercising? Yoga? How about reading a (boring) book? How about those herbal (decaffeinated) teas with chamomile? Try deep breathing and meditate to try and forget about all your stresses that's going on for the time being. Sorry, can't think of anything else..........good luck.

before you go to bed, drink warm milk, eat a bar of chocolate, and eat a turkey sandwhich.

    why??

they all have things like triptophane in it which makes you fall asleep

if that does not work, flip your matress, change sheets-pillowcasses-ect., wash your blankets, get new pajamas, take a shower, and get a new pillow. go to bed in totally clean things....you will never believe the difference that makes

Source(s): i had sleeping problems too

same here. i think for me it's mainly stress. when im really upset i tend not to be able to sleep.

you might like to deal with that sleeping issue if you deal with your stress.

otherwise, like my other classmate did, she just got sleeping pills.
