Are optical mouses better or worse than regular mouses? Or just different :) ?

I prefer the optical ones over the old mice. I've used them for Mac and PC and they're just easier to use and don't require a mouse pad. You can get a USB optical mouse for around $10 at an office supply store.

Optical is better than roller ball(regular) because it is more accurate and doesn't require moving parts to work. The best is cordless laser mouse, that doesn't even need a mouse pad and you are not restricted by a cord. I use it for gaming and will never go back to a corded mouse.

Optical mouses are anyday better than a regular mouse.

Mine is a Logitech wireless optical & came with a wireless keyboard. I love them both!! Would NOT go back, I like that I only have to move the mouse a little & can get from one side of the screeen to the other fast! It's fun to use!!!

When I use my friends computer with a regular mouse, I want to scream, it's so slow & hard to move!

Once I went optical, I couldn't stand standard ball mice. With optical, I didn't have to spend time cleaning the rollers that had gunk collected over time which hindered mouse accuracy.

Then I went over to laser. Gives more precision. Some people still prefer optical, but I'm fine with either.

Optical is way better, but one of the above answers isn't entirely accurate. You may have to clean off the bottom every now and then. You're still rubbing one surface against another surface that collects dust, and the dust can cake up on the bottom.

But it's a hell of a lot easier to clean than a regular mouse. I usually use my fingernail!

I use the optical and love it. The regular ones you have to clean a lot. The optical just sits on my knee, don't need a mouse pad.

So if you like that kind of stuff them go ahead and get an optical mouse. We had one until it ended up smashed on the wall in pieces.

An optical mouse is 200 times better...no ball getting stuck, don't have to move it around as much and you can scroll much faster!

I like the optical much better because there is no trackball to get dirty and clog up. So you never have to clean anything and it always works.

I use a wireless optical mouse and like it alot.
