It would be fun to make one of clay, or are you planning to use paper?

Check out the links below. I found paper penguins, a penguin made of heart shapes, a penguin made from the shapes of your child's hand and foot, an origami penguin, and an easy polymer clay penguin. You're sure to find something that will be just right.

    Paper Mache' Penguin

Get an oblong balloon and blow it up to the size desired.

Tie a piece of string to the knotted end, for hanging your project to dry.

You will need newspaper, a few sheets of computer paper, flour, water, paint; black, white and orange, and a couple paintbrushes.

Cover work space with plastic (plastic garbage bags cut to fit your table are great) and secure with tape.

The end with the string will be the BOTTOM of your penguin.

Use water and flour to make a paste not too thick but not too thin, kind of like a hearty gravy!

Tear up strips of newspaper about 1 1/2 inch wide.

Dunk one strip at a time into the paste.

Use your fingers in a scissors motion to squeege out the excess paste.

Slowly wrap the wet paper strip AROUND the balloon in single layer, overlapping just at the VERY edge of each strip.

Continue until the whole balloon is covered minus 1/2 inch around the diameter of the tied end with the string hanging off.

Hang your project by the string with plastic underneath in case of dripping.

Let this layer dry...to speed up the process, hang the project near a fan to dry. Or use a blow dryer on LOW temperature.

    When completely dry:

Make another layer using computer paper instead of newsprint applying the strips vertically this time so your project will not fall apart.

Let dry in same fashion as first layer.

Make some feet with computer paper and a beak too. Paint them orange. Make some wings and paint them black.

When your project is perfectly dry, pop the balloon inside and pull it out through the hole. Discard the deflated balloon and string.

Paint your penguin and glue the feet and beak and wings on.

    Ta-Da!

Easy project to do and will be done in a couple days.

Do you mean "pequin" or "penguin"?

Because if it's "penguin," you could try to make one out of hard-boiled eggs, black olives, and toothpicks. Seriously, it was a popular appetizer a few decades ago, and I think it would definitely stand out as "creative."
