Fighters are measured by their competition, so who was the best fighter that he beat. In their prime (Holmes was 38)

Update:

Sorry cary- prime years generally are 22

Outside of Michael Spinks, I guess Tony Tucker. Good question.... one that really makes my head spin, lol. I could name some more besides Tucker, but I don't think of them any higher than I do Tucker.

I would hav to say that Tony Tucker was the best PRIME fighter Tyson beat. It wasnt a good fight but Tucker fought smart enough to survive. Some say he rocked Tyson in the first round. None, however, ever mention that it was more due to Tyson's poor balance (he's always had HORRIBLE balance), and the fact that Tyson was standing straight up when Tucker hit him with the uppercut. The punch didnt hurt Mike at all.

A strong argument could be made for Razor Ruddock, probably Tyson's toughest opponent of the fights he won. however, Tucker was a better boxer than Ruddock and made for a tougher task than Tyson. NO one hit him as hard as Ruddock did. My God, that man could PUNCH.

If you didnt know that Tyson has, proably the best chin in boxing, you werent paying attention. Tyson took a lot out of Ruddock that night.

Many of those other guys were in or near their prime when Tyson came along and cleaned out the division. However, taking nothing away from Mike, none of them were very good to begin with.

He did actually beat some good fighters with outstanding records, and knocked alot of them out:

Golota(who quit he was so scared of him)

    Botha

    Tillman

    Tubbs

    Steward

    Berbick

    Ruddock

    Bonecrusher Smith

Bruno (sure a bit robotic but the British Champ at th time)

Would have to say Ruddock in his second fight was his toughest as he stopped Ruddock in his first.

Agree Holmes was past his prime but did say in the interview that even at his best he would not beat Tyson.

In Tyson's prime under Kevin Rooney's training and Jim Jacobs and Claytons management he was on his way to being one of the greats!!! Fantastic head movement and hand speed with total power! Would have been interesting to see what would have happened if he had stayed with them and stuck with Cus's plans. But along came Don "the scum" King

Tony Tucker and was a real good fight i think Tucker rocked Tyson a few times and almost dropped him early....and when he was still kid dynamite, have to go back and look at that fight .... never was a fan of spinks but the other guy i would say was a good fighter was Razor Rudduck ...not as highly regarded but was a great fighter with serious KO power, probably the best left uppercut/hook i have seen from a non mexican ....and he gave Tyson a great fight both times but the first was stopped too quick ....

Well Michael Spinks was in his 32nd and last fight the night Tyson scared him to death before knocking him out in one round and a former light heavyweight champ. Frank Bruno and Trevor Berbick, are the only ones I can think of and I certainly would not consider them great. Of course Tyson fought Holyfield and Lewis losing to both.

Tyson is probably between the wonderful "WHAT IF" or "might have been" heavyweights of all-time. i replaced right into a Tyson mark while i replaced right into a toddler yet on the time I easily did no longer understand boxing adequate to make appropriate judgements of warring parties. As N.Bates noted, Tyson's sturdiness and opposition have been bleak. additionally, i had to point out that Tyson had a deadly flaw(s) in his sort, no longer that he fairly might have had a extra effective one reason for his length, that Tyson might have had a confusing time against dissimilar super heavyweights. in spite of if Cus lived to one thousand years previous and Tyson had Rooney at his area his comprehensive profession, I agree Tyson might have had a extra efficient profession... in spite of if, Tyson's length (short-stocky) and not undemanding punching sort (burn your self out extra at as quickly as), with rather much no jab, gave him a draw back. Any super heavyweight who possessed a sturdy chin, respectable stamina, and could block Tyson's punches could beat him. And there have been extremely some who i think of could. right this is a short checklist, a number of which already beat Tyson yet there is extra (George Foreman (youthful), Ken Norton, Lewis, Holyfield, Ike Ibeabuchi, James Tony (as a heavyweight), Riddick Bowe, etc.). word i don't have Ali and Frazier in that checklist. confident, I do think of that Tyson's sort might supply those 2 greats issues according to sort. Ali stored his palms low and he replaced into liable to left-hooks, which i think of Tyson might make the main. Frazier, like Tyson, cherished a brawling form of combat, yet I supply a primary Tyson an side in that variety of matchup. element is types/matchups is many times what dictates who wins, no longer continuously who you think of is extra effective all around. there is many aspects in touch. In end, Tyson is in my top25 checklist of nicely suited heavyweights of all time. As reported earlier, if he had the x-aspects reported earlier, I easily think of he may be greater interior the rankings, yet nevertheless, in spite of if each and all of the marbles have been there for Tyson, i think of his length and elegance may be a mismatch against the suitable form of warring parties, and there have been extremely some.

Cary C is out of her mind. The closest Tyson came to fighting anyone close to their primes was Marvis Frazier and he couldn't fight.
