Stars do not give you more points. But they do attract other people to come and see (and answer) your questions because contacts of people who gave you the stars will also be alerted to the question.

If you mean the interesting stars then, they mark out a good question. They also, if you star it, add it to your Q&A so you can click on the link to get to the question faster than searching for it.

they are just rating given to the answers or the questions asked it stands for the interestingness of a question. It help yahoo to show up the questions on the main page for the interesting questions.......
