Winter coat?

I had this pit bull, and he got stolen a few months ago. Good news is that I found him 3 days ago, I'm positive it was him, I won't go into full detail on that.

My only question is that if you keep a puppy pit bull outside for several months in freezing winter weather does it get a cottony feeling winter coat? Because my other pit bull just has the regular short hair, as did this other dog until he was left outside by this idiot that stole him. I've never heard of a pit bull having a winter coat because anybody with short haired dogs usually keeps them inside during the winter... I've asked a few people I know and only 1 of them says they've heard of it. I just need some reassurance maybe?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Also, 1 more question: Is there any other dog breed that has a colour possibility of being blue with a blue nose?

Coat hair can be affected by a number of things just like you said. The cold and wind can cause changes to the coat as can not being stroked or clean or skin disorders. But the most common cause for a more wirey appearence is living outdoors. If kept in a heated environment, clean and stroked (Releases conditioning oils from our skin) It may return over a period of time to original condition.

Second Question. The blue gene is carried in a number of breeds. If two parents carrying the same blue gene mate they will produce a litter of blues. This includes coat, foot and nose leathers and skin, etc.

Blue Lacy (Working dogs) Generman sheperds are two to look up which will probably explain this gene far better than i could.

    Hope this helps, x

Coat will change in thickness for winter, but a short haired breed does not grow a cottony coat or otherwise change in basic texture or length in the winter.

Other solid color blue dogs include Weimaraners and great danes.

I don't know of a short haired dog changing coats like that. If you have a double coated breed, they have the guard hairs, and the softer undercoat. They will generally feel sort of coarse, but if you shave them down, you will feel the softer undercoat. But, this isn't usually what occurs with really short hair like pits.

I'm sorry to hear that your puppy was outside in the freezing cold for several months!

We can all specualte here but I suggest you take him to the Vet ASAP. You need to get him checked out to make sure nothing else is wrong with him and for goodness sakes make sure his shots are up-to-date.

When you take him to the Vet, he should be able to answer all of your questions.
