How is the release of a new Paula Abdul single "a historical moment"?

Happy Tuesday, R&P! :)

I guess it was only a matter of time before it happened, but apparently Paula is attempting to resurrect her career by releasing a single on Randy Jackson's new album. Here are the details along with a link to the song, if you're interested:

The thing that stood out the most for me was Ryan Seacrest's (I know, I know) assertion that this single was "a historical moment". Is it historical in the Lennon assassination sense or in the "I had a granola bar for breakfast" sense? Are there any moments in music history that you could equate this to?

;)

Update:

Thanks, Beatle fanatic! Ugh...you're right! I didn't even think about that! :(

Update 2:

LOL...thanks, mrbernstein! :)

Update 3:

Thanks, Dave! Yes, yesterday was a historical day for music!

Update 4:

LOL - really, Prof? I didn't hear about that Tom Brady thing...

Update 5:

Morning, Tesla Girl! And yes, I do remember that video...that seems like ages ago!

Update 6:

Hey, Master C! We'll all remember where we were when we heard the news...

*sigh*

Update 7:

Spooky...LOL!

Update 8:

Thanks, Darth! I'm still giggling over "who cut the cheese"... :)

Update 9:

I agree, PinkFloyd...it IS crazy!

Update 10:

Squiks - I love granola bars too...that's my breakfast just about every morning! :)

I had no idea this was happening, honestly. Whatever she does musically is gonna flop big, if it doesn't I will lose all faith in society.

As far as Ryan's commentary on this "historical moment" you gotta consider the source.

Other "historical moments" on this level= Vanilla Ice getting his first "fade" haircut.... McHammer purchasing his first pair of parachute pants and Billy Ray Cyrus mainstreaming the mullet. All cringeworthy in my book.

That's the media hype machine for you. It's historical like Britney Spears going to the gas station and historical like Tom Brady showing up at his girlfriend's house with flowers in a protective boot. That's the thing that drives me crazy about the information age, everything has to be the best and biggest thing ever and there isn't even an attempt at perspective. I'll give the ad dudes credit though, it works. No one wants to miss history in the making, even if it's historical like the historical 13th episode of the Deal or No Deal (you know the one where there was the guy who ALMOST did it and the host cracked a joke).

Oh yeah, it's been ridiculous. I listen to a lot of sports talk radio at work and it's just been silly. I guess that's what happens when you've got two weeks to kill and you have to keep hyping the Super Bowl, but man...

That's a good point Mr. Bernstein. They should propose redoing the calendars to start reflecting the year as 7 A.I. American Idol is bigger than Jesus.

Aw Darth, why you gotta bring Fruit Loops into this? Fruit Loops are awesome. He probably eats the modern Lucky Charms, not the cool ones from the 80s, but the sucky ones from after they did a very poor job replicating his voice and drawing him all modern and stupid. (insert smile face)

There is only one Randy Jackson that matters

The lead singer and guitarist for the band Zebra

I think that loser from Idol should be forced to change His name to Ralph Jackson or something

The OTHER Randy Jackson was shredding while the Idol loser was still gnawing his fruit loops and watching Bugs Bunny

And Paula's wittle single is historical in the

"Who just cut the cheese" sense if You ask Me

    Happy Tuesday Sookie!

I don't have much to contribute today, I'm swamped with work. Blahh.. I will say quick though that if Paula's new single is considered a historical moment, then history has seriously taken a huge dive.

Remember the music video to her song, "Opposites Attract"? I used to love that video. That cartoon cat has a better chance at making history then she should.

    Happy Tuesday Sookie!

It's historical in the sense that Paula and Randy even remotely think that they had or will have a sucessful music career(s).

Did you notice the title of the album is Vol. 1, does that mean there will be many more to look forward to?

    Hey Sookie!!!

This is going to be a defining moment in my life. I am literally bouncing off the walls in anticipation. With this release, there will be a roar of enthusiasm as Paula Abdul is welcomed with open arms......into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!!

I hear that they made room by moving the Cream exhibit to the dark corner by the janitorial closet.

    Happy Tuesday, Sookie!

Of course it is a historical moment! This is simply a continuation of a phenomena from 6 years earlier.

We now measure time differently. We no longer simply say "It is the year 2008."

Now we say "It is 2008 A.I.", to denote the placement of time to mark it's relation of the monumental event known as "American Idol." :-)

A historical moment in the sense that no one believed she could steadily hold a microphone in her hand long enough to record an entire song.

hey granola bars should always deserve recognition (especially if they're peanut butter and chocolate!) lol, ya that's really stupid, once you've lowered down to judging a reality tv show, it's kinda hard to get back in the real music biz.
