memtest 86 and bsod?
i have been having the bsod pop up at random times lately. i decided to run memtest 86 ad find out if i had a bad stick of ram.after running memtest 86 there were many red highlighted items on the screen so i think i have some bad ram. if i replace the ram should the bsod stop coming up. thanks.

I'd say it was RAM...
Try re-running the test with only one RAM stick at a time - I have just done that for this laptop I've just repaired, and sure enough, one stick was bad - replaced it with another and the machine is fine once again.

Yes, it will stop assuming that the defective memory is causing your problem, and that the new memory you get is error-free.
If you were using linux, memtest86 can output a file containing the bad memory locations, and linux would just choose to never read or write data from those pieces of memory.
