Earl's 67 doubles (AMAZING) has stood time for even longer than the .400 and the 56 game hitting streak. It's been there since 1931. 77 years and counting.
The closest anyone has ever gotten to that (since 1950) is 59, by Todd Helton back in 2000. Carlos Delgado had 57 in 2000 as well, but was still 10 off.
After Earl's 1931 season, he slipped off dramatically.
Doubles fell from 67 to 28
BA fell from .333 to .285
Slug dropped from .528 to .417
RBI's dropped from 103 to 78
Hits dropped from 196 to 151
Runs Scored dropped from 96 to 72
Gradually, over the course of 2 seasons after '31, he fell off the radar.
