Internet service provider?
I was signing up for Verizon High Speed Internet. It said something about choosing an ISP.
I thought an ISP was only for dial-up. I don't know much about it, though. Could someone explain this to me?

ISP stands for Internet Service Provider. No matter what you have, you have an ISP. There are 4 major ways to get internet. They are Dial Up, Cable, Satilite, and DSL. Dail up all of the information is sent over phone lines, very slow, don't get it unless you are short on money. With Satilite, You upload over phone lines and download over satalite. It is slightly faster. The next 2 are DSL and Cable, they are the fastest. With cabel you "share" the same internet speed with everbody else who has that servise. It can get very, very slow, dial up slow, durring peak hours such as dinner and in the evning. But at 3 Am and 3pm. its lightning fast. With DSL, you have less potentsial speed, but the speed is yours. I would recomend DSL. About the same price as cable but you will always have speed. Plus, if you have a wireless router, you can't broadcast the potentsial speed of Cable. no mater what cable says, that is the truth. If you have another question, just post agian. Hope this helped.

An ISP is an internet service provider. You need to access an ISP to get on the internet regardless of the connection methods, like DSL, cable, ADSL, broadband, wireless, dial up etc.
Dial up is just a method of connecting to an ISP from your computer, just like cable, broadband etc.
