Unopenable dumb box.?

My science teacher has this wooden box that no one can open for 27 years cause she lost the directions it is a four layered wooden box with lines making all most a peace sign on it with three lines going to the end of the box we tried knives, paper clips, etc. and it would never if anyone has an idea on how we can open it just type in an answer and please no dumb answers like blow it up or anything like that.

    Magnets can sometimes be helpful for these things.

    take it to a local Mensa meeting, they go apeshit for that stuff and likely they'll figure it out pretty quick
