destructive dog!!!!?
I have a destructive dog and I think the last straw is that he chewed off the zippers on my fiance's $300 coat today.. sigh... he is destructive even with his own toys.. he eats the eyes off even soft fabric ones and tears into them and apart...
Any ideas out there how i can get my dog to stop being so destructive with everything?
he has the hard rubber toys as well as ropes and anything you could think of... and he is a chihuahua... He gets lots of exercise but seems to love to rip out the eyes of anything...

There is a type of spray that you can get that they don't like the taste of, not sure what it's called but maybe someone else can give you more information on it or you could look it up.
Sounds like he needs more interesting toys, DURABLE rubber, like a kong. Make sure he has lots of selection or else he will just get bored and chew your belongings even more.
Don't yell at him/hit when he gets into something of yours, just in case you might, and if you find him with something you don't want him chewing, tell him "No."in a stern voice and promptly replace it with an acceptable toy.
Good luck, I'm having behavior issues with my dog as well..

He is probably destructive because he has alot of energy and is bored. Try exercising him more, and taking him on long walks at least once daily. When you aren't directly watching him, put him in a kennel. He can't be destructive if you have one eye on him at all times, ready to correct him if he goes for something that is not his. So, when you see him go for something not his, correct him with a firm "NO!" and then give him something of his own, like a rubber KONG toy, or some other non destructable dog toy. (I like Kongs, even my pitbull can't destroy those things) Do those things, and you will get through his chewing stage. That stage for my dog took several years, before we were able to trust her to have "free roam" when we weren't watching her. Good luck.

he needs more attention and more durable toys... you dont say what kind he is... but the number one thing would be to not leave the coat where he can get it...
dogs destroy things when they are bored or lonley... depending on the breed - some breeds (huskys for example) need ALOT more interaction/attention/play/exercise/ect than others (for example - labs)
i am going to assume that hes an inside dog and suggest you crate train him so you can sleep at night without him being destructive while you sleep...
some dogs though, just have a strong desire to chew... buy the solid rubber toys or the real cow bones... they will last alot longer and you wont have stuffing to clean up

Airedale Terrier. Chewed up & tore up more than I can even remember or list. Stole food, Stole kid's toys, shoes & boots, clothes, towels, etc and tore everything up. Ate a good bit of it too. Surprised she never got an obstruction. Jumped on the kids. Dug huge holes. It was this dog that got me to my first Dog Obedience class 25 yrs ago. I've been training dogs & competing in Obedience since. And training & competing in Agility for 13 yrs now. I learned a lot of things from that awful dog. The need for early basic Obedience training & methods to train. That a dog needs activities to keep it from being bored & destructive. I also learned how essential it is for active dogs to get adequate exercise for them to make good companions.

I used to have destructive dog also,
She is rottweiler and at that time still puppy,
My vet suggest me to go walk everyday.
So the dog will have their energy used
and feel tired to do any destructive habit.
And it really works.
The other thing, u can also buy spray "Stay off training aid" on the Pet Shop.
U can spray to things that ur dog usually chew.
And, somehow ur dog won't chew it again.
Spray it regularly until ur dog habit is changed
U can see it here..

Or use something like eucalyptus oil.

Exercise, exercise, exercise! Too much pent-up energy is a very common cause of hyperactivity or destruction. You didn't say what breed he is, but try for an hour a day, and then if it doesn't cease, move up to an hour twice a day.

sounds like he needs more attention...if he is more destructive when you're away...try doggy day care. There needs to be more interaction as he is acting out of frustration

EXERCISE IT !!
The more you exercise it, the calmer, happier and settled they are.

1.Leave him in your backyard until he behaves
2.Sell him
3.Dont feed him for a long time, once he behaves give him food
4.Try to calm him down by patting him
5. Give him sleeping pills
