How many protein shakes a day?

I work out for an hour a day but never do the same muscle group 2 consecutive days. I also work hard however i have only been working out for 3 months. Should i be taking 3 protein shaks or 2 protein shakes per day?

Good - I'm not a bodybuilder, but i am in great shape. So take my advice if you want

Mon - back/cardio (workout back for half an hour, then do 30 mins of running/jogging/walking)

    Tues - Legs/abs

Wed - Chest/Triceps ( chest and tri workouts are always use eachothers muscle - chest workouts use tris, tri workouts use chest - alot of people ignore the triceps, they are 2/3 of your arm muscle)

    Thu-legs/abs

Fri-Biceps/shoulders(save biceps for end of the week, if your biceps are tired you wont be able to do chest/shoulders/back/tri work-outs)

Sat -*if you want* - Cardio/abs

Hit every group once a week and hard, it gives them a whole week to recover and you will see alot of progress. Working the same group two-days in a row is pointless.

As for protein shakes, that depends on if you want to bulk up or get ripped.

Bulking - bodyweight in grams of protein (if you weigh 180, eat 180 grams of protein)

i weigh 180 but dont want to get any bigger than i am so what i do is eat around 100 - 135 grams. But my calorie intake is strictley between 1700 - 2100 - No less and No more.

This is perfect for losing fat and retaining muscle.

Sorry for all the details but to answer your question a good idea would be In your Oatmeal put a scoop of whey protein - whether it is before workout or breakfast. Then a whey protein shake after workout. So stick with two, if you want to get alot bigger then have one for dinner mixed w/ milk (Casein protein found in milk releases alot slower and is good for before bed)

There are numerous approaches to determine your daily protein requirements and the results for most adults range from as low as 70 grams of complete protein per day to as high as 200 grams per day depending on your lean body mass and your activity level. If you take in to much protein which is highly unlikely it will store up in your liver and kidneys so i would not take more then 200 per day. find out how much protein is in one shake and drink up to 200 per day. and only take that much if you are trying to gain muscle

Like the others have said try to take 1g per lbs of body mass. But also include things like milk, eggs and meat you eat in a day try to stay below 200g of protein.

I would recommend 20g shake or bar pre-workout and 20g post-workout. Then 40g before you go to bed, that will make up for 80g, the other grams try to take in as egg whites, milk, chicken, fish etc. That works for me.

Yes i have one before my workout to give me energy and sustenance, then i have one after my workout to repair my muscles. I usually go for the shakes that are high in protein and low in FAT so no harm done!

its not about how many shakes, its about how many grams of protein youre taking. you should take 1 gram of protein to every lb you weigh

I got all proteins I need from food, actually the only thing I have noticed my body needs is Calcium as everything else I get from the food I eat.

So sorry I can not help you here as I prefer veg-fruit made juice and smoothies :)

    but good luck :)

i suggest taking in 2-3 protien shakes if you workout every day.

1 as a breakfast replacment, 1 before workout, 1 after workout

    or

1 before workout, 1 afer workout, 1 before going to bed
