Maine Coon. Not only do they have a very distinct, gorgeous look, but their personality is the best of cats. Facts: they're the most intelligent breed, friendliest, and plus, they sometimes trill when they meow, so that's a very distintive trait for them. Also, they're low-maintenance because their coat only needs about one brush a week to keep it in tip-top shape, they're not usually afraid of water, and they're not overly-dependent and great with children and babies and so on. They're also well-behaved and just generally THE BEST BREED OF CAT THERE IS.

Please go to your local shelter. All cats are beautiful. They all have different personalities. You might find a cat who is beautiful on the outside, but not an ideal companion. Since you are taking the time to research the type of cat that you would like to invite into your life why not go a step further and research feline behavior and care. Invest in some literature about cats. Books, magazines, etc. You are going to have people on here give you their opinions about which cat breed is the best, but my advice is to research what cats are about. Why did they domesticate thousands of years ago? Why are these lovely creatures living with us? They are not an adornment, some possession that needs to match the aesthetic of your house. Your cat will become your companion, a part of your family. Do you want a cat who will snuggle up with you in bed or one who is super aloof and independent? Some of the most beautiful cats that I have ever seen were cats from a shelter.

You might consider more than one cat. They love company.

Persians, Maine Coons, Turkish Angoras and other longhaired breeds are gorgeous cats but not cats to be bought on a whim or for status. Fully research the breed. And then if you still want one go to a shelter because they get dumped there regularly - by people who DID buy them on a whim or for status and then realize how much work they are.

Go to your local shelter and browse the long haired models. The one who captures your heart will become the most beautiful cat.

That's for you to decide. But make sure you don't get too carried away with appearance and forget about the grooming needs of long haired cats (Persians are very high maintenance) and consider temperament too.

I think there are many gorgeous long-haired breeds. I'm partial to Maine Coons, Norwegian Forest Cats, and Angoras myself. But really, beauty is in the eye of the beholder (seriously, I can't believe anyone thinks a smooshed-face like a Persian is nice to look at, and yet, there are many who think they are incomparably beautiful).

Persian cat's specially the short legged ones are the most hairiest cat I know and they are so cute!
