UK Benefits -means tested?
I am presently on Pension Credit and about to get a sum of money that will take me over the limit for capital allowed -by abut £13,000
I wish to spend about £6000 on clearing my mortgage .Will this be allowed and are the limits on what I am may spend the money on or will it be construed as denying myself an income and thus increasing ny stay on benefits

I think you need to see you citizen advice bureau,they will know how to advise you properly.

You would have to prove that the £6'000 is being paid off you mortgage. As long as you live a normal life as you did before you won't have a problem - however booking a world cruise, plasma TV, etc etc is frowned upon as you would be deliberately spending to gain benefits!
Live as you lived before the money came, but little treats are fine.

As I am sure you know, you are allowed to have £6000 in your own bank account. If you are receiving housing benefit you would have to tell them you were paying off your mortgage, otherwise I am sure it doesn't concern them.
