Using your online profiles to promote volunteering & causes - do you? if not, why not?

You have an online profile here on YahooAnswers. You have on Yahoo, in general, as well. You probably have profiles on MySpace, FaceBook, LinkedIn, and various other online social networking sites too.

Do you use these profiles to link to or talk about nonprofit organizations you volunteer for, or causes that you care about?

Do you use these profiles to encourage people to support particular nonprofits or causes?

If not, why not? If yes, what kind of responses do you get to your profile as a result? (if any)

Yes. On my myspace page it says that I am a volunteer with Zoo Atlanta (they are a non-profit organization focused on conservation). I get lots of messages from people (especially teens) that are interested in volunteering there. A year ago I participated in a fundraising event to find a cure for autism, WalkNow, and I used to myspace to promote the event. I got a pretty good response and some people donated money and others even joined me at the actual event.

No I have not. That said through my association with folks on YA I have found ways that even on my physical limitations I have been able to pay back. Months ago a senior had mentioned about giving food at a seniors center to help others. I began to do that two days later. Little, perhaps, but I know it has made a difference to a few in my small community. The word is important. Thank you and all the others for this important work.

I use my myspace and facebook accounts to promote the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, which I am a volunteer for. However I have found that many people on these sites don't respond well to this. I must say that my friends and acquaintences don't really care much about volunteering or any causes....maybe they still need to mature a little...idk.
