Getting thumbs down,why?

Don't worry. Like Oscar Wilde once said, the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about at all!

I'd much rather get 10 thumbs down after putting a lot of work into a question than just 0. It shows my thoughts and words were indeed read and had some impact and shook the readers up!

I don't understand the thumbing-down. I only do it when someone is clearly (to me) wrong, but I think the asker may be misled (especially by other thumbs-ups) into accepting that answer.

I think it would be good if there was some kind of a cap on thumbs-down vs. thumbs up, like you can't give more than 5 downs for every two ups, or something.

Some people just like to be mean to others...and this is sad. Some people think thumbing down others will give them a better chance at getting picked as best (wrong!)

Just ignore...most of us who have been around awhile don't even consider the thumbs when choosing a best answer.

EDIT: I just gave everyone a thumbs up...including the thumbs downer above me.

Yes, it seems that way to me sometimes, when every single answer has the same number of thumbs downs.

Often it's the asker - who auto-thumbs-down everyone who doesn't say what they want to hear - please don't do that to us!

I've also suspected that another Y/A user I've irritated in the past stalks my answers and thumbs-down me for no reason. Very mature. Otherwise it's the just the kind of people who like to be negative but are afraid of confrontation. Or maybe they just can't type.

You are absolutely correct. Right or wrong, sometimes everyone that answers gets a thumbs down........

There must be something in the air, water or maybe it's the weather. Yes, I've noticed an awful lot of haters out there today too.

I don't really pay too much attention to the answer ratings (thumbs) so I don't really question it too much. I would suspect that most people would be giving honest ratings...I don't see why not. It would be pretty stupid to rate an answer based on, say, a person's avatar. It depends if you're a regular or not also, I suppose.

And thats because your view is pathetic! You cant force people to think bad for giving some crappy answer a thumbs down.

Its a right and everybody has the freedom to do whatever they want to do with it and that includes being mean!

some people think it is funny to give thumbs down.. since it doesn't affect your rating why do you care?
