Advice for before you leave? Make sure that this is something you want to do... Give a look into the other branches and broaden your horizons first. Just make sure you are 100% confident with your decision because once you join it's not like you can just quit. You are swearing your your life to the military for the next 4-6 years of your life.
Also make sure that you are in shape when you get there... You do not want to go to basic out of shape because it'll just add more stress while you are there. Start running, doing sit ups and push ups now...
When you get there pay attention to detail.. Be aware of all the little things and become nit picky when it comes to cleaning your drawer and rolling your shirts (no they do not fold tshirts into a square anymore...they started rolling tham when i went through almost 3 years ago) make sure everything is flushed correctly, and all the hanging strings are clipped off...The little things could make or break you.
Yes, it'll seem tough when you first get there because you miss home or what not, but remember it's only temporary. By the time you hit second week you will be in such a routine that it will become "normal" and automatic...
Personally, I say go for it. It's a great choice. You'll get the oppertunity to do things you've never done before, and probably see places you've never seen before...including deployment... but all in all it's a decision I don't personally regret and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
And when you're finished with basic when you look back on it, you'll probably say to yourself "it was a cake walk" because looking back at it, it was!
Take the GI Bill because for only putting in $1200 total you'll get almost $40,000 for school... plus take advance of the $4500 a year for tuition assictance. And make srue you go in with a guarunteed job! You don't want to go open general and risk possibly getting a career field that you'll hate. Stick to it, and mark down jobs that YOU want, not what others tell you to do!

First of all I would say to think about it. Visit other recruiters to see if they can offer you a better contract. I personally would prefer you to join the Navy and see the world. If flying is your cup of tea, the Navy has the finest Naval Air Force in the world and offers opportunities that other service can not compare to, like service on a floating city. My old squadron "Fighting 103" will be holding their 50th cruise reunion in Washington, D.C. soon and as 50 years have passed still enjoy the companionship and felloship that has existed ever since.

Make sure you pick a job you want. If you go in as Open General, you'll probably get Security Forces.
And we don't fold shirts into perfect squares; shirts are rolled now in Basic.
Make sure you're physically prepared for Basic. If you can't run a mile and a half in under 12 minutes, make sure you can before you leave.
Basic is tough when you're there, but when you look back at it, you'll think, "Wow, that wasn't SO bad."
Make sure you sign up for the GI Bill. It's free college, basically.

I would say be fit mind and body, be a leader and make sure that if you were promised anything that it is in your contract before you ship to boot camp. Air force boot camp is the easiest of all of the service, but then again they are the most selective branch of the military. So just think of boot camp like its a mind game that they are planning.

Be careful about picking your job...it determines a great deal of your happiness or unhappines...and has a hand in what you do after the military...also, I wish I had kept my mouth shut and my eyes open more as a young airman...
EDIT: Definitely get the GI Bill...its not just for tuition, and you can use it at some vocational schools as well as colleges.

dont do it!
no im just kidding, you want to make sure you look into every branch before you decide which one you want to go into because each different one can offer you different things.
statistically the af is harder to get into just becuause they are the easiest so they have so many people trying to get in that they are takin people from the af and sending them to the army. make sure you get a job that you are going to like because you are going to be doing it for a long time. everything the recruiter tells you that you are going to get (job, bonus) make sure its in writing or its not worth squat. and remember when you are in training you are going to make it through, the af has the easiest training of all the branches so if we can do it then you can do it too.
congrats on wanting to serve..i didnt mean to offend you if i did by makin jokes about the af

Be physically ready for boot camp , you will be broken down and built back up and LEARN HOW TO FOLD SHIRTS INTO PERFECT SQUARES NOW! ...oh yeah and dont voluneteer for anything in boot camp ... and for gods sake do not put down that you want Open General / Crew Chief / Security Forces ...that should be enough for now
