Homelite Chain Saw stalls after a few seconds?
I have a 33cc Homelite chain saw (2 cycle) which starts up with full choke, but stalls when I rev it or go to 1/2 choke or no choke. I took out the spark plug and pulled the crank a few times, and also replaced with a new spark plug. I checked the air filter and tried starting with it off, no luck. It has new gas/oil which is correctly ratio/mixed. Any other suggestions?

2 cycle engines run and idle best on high octane fuels.
Use the highest octane fuel (94 or higher) when mixing.
Regular fuel is 87 octane. Not good for 2 cycle engines.
Most stations have 94 octane fuel.
BP stations have high octane fuel. I've seen some with 97 octane.
Be sure fuel has no added ethenol(alcohol).

Sound like a fuel problem, dirt or blocked gas line or carb or the carb out of adjustment. Maybe try to adjustment screw on carb but only turn it a very little bit at a time, try doing it with the saw running and you will hear the difference in the engine. Good luck

Dirt or grit in the carb bowl, plugged fuel filter...I've even had some where the gas cap vent hole was plugged and caused a vacuum in the tank enough to starve the fuel flow...try starting with the gas cap loose to see if it still quits.

does the recoil pull out? if so sounds like the carb seized up from sitting for a long time probably just a float bowl problem, possibly not letting fuel into combustion chamber or ignition coil is dead

In addition to the other suggestion, if there's a spark arrestor on the exhaust, make sure it's not clogged with carbon deposits.

Had this same problem with my Husky and Stihl. Might be the fuel filter ....mine was located in fuel tank on end of the fuel hose.
