to all vampire/paranormal reader fans out there?

What do you think of the current trend in the genre of paranormal/vampire novels? The whole "pity me/sexy hero" vampire and the vampire/vampire hunter pairings? What are some changes to the genre you want to see?

Update:

Art, I now have an urge to write a Muslim vampire story. My muse thanks you.

    A hero vampire.

    A vampire that becomes undamned.

A vampire hottie from the middle east. (never seen one)

  • I agree, so many stories are sounding the same lately. I believe that the whole sympathetic vampire stems from Anne Rice's "Interview With the Vampire". Everyone was fascinated with the weak and humanistic vampire.

I love that book, I have to admit, but I think that writers are leaning too heavily on that now and it's time to go back to Dracula and vampires of old! I don't even remember the last time I read a book where the vampire doesn't have feelings for the person trying to kill them and just...sinks his or her fangs into their necks.

I feel your pain! I'm a writer myself and,I'm a bit sick of the "good" vampire as misunderstood soul who's really not such a bad guy(except for the blood drinking)I have a character that I've written several short stories about who's not any of the above.Yeah,he works with humans, but he had no compunction about taking out bad guys as a sort of "rough justice" and he doesn't apologize for it either
