1.Look on the USTA site for places to play and possible partners. Also go ahead a join. This will help you get into all sorts of tournaments for the experience.

    2. Ask the current tennis coach at your school for help in finding a pro or junior tennis program.

3.Get as many balls as you can and practice your serve as much as you can once you've learned proper technique by hitting to a cone, racket cover or other target in the service court.. Most beginners neglect doing this. The serve is the only shot in tennis you have complete control over; don't neglect it. Good consistent servers have a big advantage, especially at junior levels-and you can practice it by yourself.

    4. Learn how to hit off a backboard if one is available. This also gives you a chance to practice by yourself.

    5. Buy a jump rope and use it daily. Work up to at least 5 minutes. It will do wonders for your footwork.

    6. At your level work on having fun at it. You end up playing more and not dreading it.

    7. Practice with a purpose. Set small goals and work up. For example you might be working on getting your backhand in play 5 times in a row. After you can do that work on 6 the next time you practice.

This is probably going to vary by school and coach a lot, but my coach was very good at turning people who had never played before into decent tennis players. If I were you I would consider taking beginner group tennis lessons (private lessons are expensive). This will give you a little bit of an idea of what you should expect when you go into tennis practice next year. I've played tennis most of my life but saw some very good players who started playing in high school so you should definitely attempt to play.

Well... If you live in Oc, that's located in L.A there should be many tennis courts around there..... You could find lessons by passing by tennis courts with insturctors teaching their students. to make the tennis team... you would need to know how to hit the ball at a moderate rate into the court, serving, and knowing the rules of the game........ Or you could look online for lessons. for example, youtube... there are a couple of lessons there.. all you need to do is watch the video and practice from that.... Oh yeah and learn the footing in tennis it would help a lot.

Orange county should have lots of tennis courts and tennis clubs. I think you or your parents should call some local tennis clubs and ask about having you take some lessons. Almost all clubs have a pro who gives lessons. If you want to start out with group lessons, they are cheaper. This will give you a good start toward making the team, and you might find people at the club or during the lessons to practice with.

if you know anyone whose better at tennis and takes lessons go to their coach or play against them instead of your other friend. I was a beginner and unless you're in a very competitive tennis school then you should be good to make the team with better practice and lessons. I started tennis about two years ago and i was #8 my freshmen year playing (about 8 months after i started taking lessons but then again my school wasn't very competitive)

you don't need a private coach or any pro coach , just a normal coach that can teach you all basic of tennis and after that you start to play with your own tennis style, but group lesson is the problem, you can't learn much about about if is only 3 or 2 then is okay

    Good Luck

So the tennis bug has bitten you..? Awesome, join the club!

A really nice coach in the OC is James, I donno his last name tho,lol he coaches me. I play for University. He can do a good deal for between 30-80 hour depending on where you live, your level etc. His number is 714-600-3117 he lives in Tustin.

there is tustin hills racquet club, LA racuet club etc..but they are all too expensive for school level tennis. You can also join www.tennisleague.com and play local players.

I'm level 4, if your at least level 3 then we can hit, ofcourse I won't charge you and i live in OC too. Send me an email if you wanna hit Shreyandas@yahoo.com. Good luck!

You can definitely make it. You just need to continue to practice, maybe by just having a friend throw you tennis balls. Or if your family can afford it, get lessons. As well as, make sure you know the rules, and just determination. Good Luck!

2 things- Equipment and practice. These are both neccessary to any advancements in the game. You don't need a private coach to get to a good level of play. All you need is a good racquet, good shoes, and someone to hit with.

practice practice practice. i decided to try out for my high school team (only hoping for jv). i practiced 24/7. got a new racket. went to a tennis camp for a week. ran a lot. and to my surprise i made varsity!

try to find a new partner, it may be harsh on your friend but its necessary. you wont get any progress with someone whose not your level. try to get someone at your exact same level, that way competition is fierce and equal. good luck!
