The answer is simple. Totalitarian Agriculture is the culprit. The answer is permicultrue on a small scale. Each person/small group doing their own farming, hunting & gathering.
If you are really into this issue I highly recommend reading works by the author Daniel Quinn.
Start out with "Story of B"
It’s a fiction so it’s easy to read but is filled with SO MUCH great information.
