Is the Yahoo!/Microsoft merger a good thing for Yahoo! users?
Since the first day I had internet I have always used Yahoo! It’s always been my home page. I like more that Google or MSN and I am "worried" over the future of Yahoo! My personal opinion is that Microsoft will completely ruin everything that is great about Yahoo! As we can see with Microsoft own MSN, their strengths is not on the online world. The only one benefiting from this deal is Microsoft. Yes, Yahoo’s stock hasn’t been performing great and Google has a strong market share over Yahoo!, but a Microsoft buyout is not going to help or change these facts. This is just a quick fix to Microsoft urge to want to be the "big dog" in the online world. Buying Yahoo! will take away one of their biggest competitor and in make Microsoft the runner up and maybe one day the leader in this industry? As far as I am concerned, if you Yahoo! sells out and mergers with Microsoft, I will sell out too and go to Google.
They wont fire everyone, BUT Yahoo! will change. They are not going to keep Yahoo! and MSN, they will merge. People will leave the company or get fired. Historically speaking mergers dont end up working for the bettter. Microsoft is just looking to buyout the competition. They are not going to care about Yahoo!
I agree that Microsoft ultimate goal is to have their office on the web. They dont need yahoo! to do this. They have their own website. They are hoping to buy market share. They dont care about the company.

It actually will not affect Yahoo to any great extent. The reasoning behind this is simple, there is a major change in the way software is developing. It is now possible to have no office software on your PC and to work using online suites. Google have deveoped Google office which could become a threat to Microsoft. The purchase of Yahoo gives Microsoft a web prescence to promote a new Microsoft office online and allow it to compete with Google.

Personally, I'd rather have Google running the internet (in that metaphorical sense) than Microsoft. At least then it won't crash every five minutes.
Seriously, though, this scares me. I really don't want to have to set up a new email account and change it with everything I currently use mine for. I've had this account for close to ten years. Unfortunately, if Microsoft takes over, I'll have to break down and finally get that gmail account.

The real question is not "Will you quit Yahoo! is Microsoft buy it?" but "Why should I quit Yahoo! if Microsoft get it?" ...
Yahoo! may still be developed by the same people, Microsoft will not just buy Yahoo!, fire everyone, and make a meta redirect to MSN.com...

If you look at the Microsoft answer to Google (I lost link, but you will find it easily), this transaction is to offer a viable 2nd actor in the advertising online world.
