NOx is related to pressure and heat. Diesels have alot more cylinder pressure and combustion heat. It takes alot of compression to get diesel fuel to ignite so the pressure has to be high. Turbocharging creates intake heat which raises cylinder temperature. Running a diesel lean to keep soot to a minimum compounds the NOx problem.

My chem teacher said that the formation of NOx is favored by higher temperatures.

So that would be my guess; diesel might burn at higher temperatures.

    Diesel is inferior to Petrol

Its composition is such. It leaves a lot of soot on ignition.

Like Aviation fuel is best. Quality wise.

In an Oil refinery, these are the products. The more you improve on refining, the better it is.

Is why Diesel is cheaper. Not spent on it as spent on Petrol.
