Ok so I have the oppurtunity to buy an older G3 Apple Desktop but, I don't like the OSX Operating System. Can
anyone tell me the best linux distro to pop on this old piece of machinery. And most importantly some guides to do so. Thanks.

if there ever were any linux distros for that machine, they are way out of date and not supported anymore. expect to create a security nightmare.
but if you must, google "download linux for g3" and you will find how to do it.

Hi, I am not sure what platform a G3 actually is but I think its power pc right? If its x86 then use Xubuntu if u have 128mb ram at least or damn small linux.
Since I think its power pc u will have to look at some power pc distros. I think Xubuntu has a power pc version but just make sure u have at least 128mb ram.
One more thing if this system comes with OS X versions 10.3 or above then I don't recommend installing Linux cause first of all OS X itself works very well on a Mac, then u have more commercial applications and also that Linux on power pc is not as much fun as it is on x86 or x86_64. Thats cause most people don't use power pc computers.
Good Luck!

I suggest you read http://www.gifford.co.uk/~coredump/beigeg3.htm this story.
If you can't get old Ubuntu, try using Debian Etch. Start with minimal install and install packages as and when you need them.
Etch is a lot newer than Ubuntu 5.04 as seen in this story. But if you start with minimal installation of Etch shouldn't be much demanding for the Beige G3.. I guess so.
