I have a very important question?
Assalam U Alikum, I a 28 year old man am a huge car enthusiast and have 4 cars at the moment will be 5 as soon they import my 997 Porsche 911 GT2 from Stuttgart, Germany which should be here before 15th of feb, my mother keeps telling me that what I am doing is wrong, that I am wasting my money which I will agree with her but I have this obsession with these things that I cannot get over with, I am not materialistic, I'll be honest, cars are the only thing that I spend my money on insanely, I do not wear expensive watches/perfumes/accessories they seem useless neither do I spend thousands on clothing and nor do I spend thousands on recreational activities such as holidays abroad or eating out in fancy restaurants (sometimes yes but not always), I pray 4 if not 5 times a day (I usually pray my Fajar prayer at 6:30 am), I pay my part of the Zakat, I fast constantly in the month of Ramadan.
my question is that, do you think what I am doing is wrong and ...
do you think having an obession with cars is materialism?
@ BooBoo: I very much appriciate your concerns about me dis obeying my parent but thatis not the case here, my parents just sometimes advice me not to do so, they dont have anything against me spending money on cars, I obey my parents very much and they them selves claim that.

Dear,
Assalamu'alaikum Warahmatullahhi Wabarakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent and the Most Merciful.
My answers to your Questions is simple:
Since you can effort to have the cars, Why not!. Carry on. It's your money. It's not again the religion to fulfill your hobby.
Unless you're wasting.
Any wasting is a friend of Devil Iblis Satan Laknattullah.
Wabillahhitaufiq Walhidayah Wassalamu'alaikum Warahmatullahhi Wabarakatuh.

I don't think it is wrong, as many of us have various "collecting" hobbies , albeit not as expensive as car collections..But, i do feel that the money could be used for something more useful, but since you seem to pay your Zakah regularly, it isn't obligatory..Like sister saruni said, if you live in a rich neighbourhood, thgis probably is normal there, and "luxury" can have various meanings according to the people..what is a basic necessity for us, say like soap, may be a luxury for some one else.. Follow brother Ismail Eliat's advice,, and make sure that your intentions are good when you add to your collection etc.

Actually you are wasting money. because in olden times people survived before cars, money, etc. if you buy a car for suppose 200,000 USD it will only make you happy. but if you spend only 500 USD on poor people they will be happy. you already have four cars then what is the need for one more. still many people in the world don't eat food everyday. If you have money dont spend like this way, try to help poor people. and always the mothers are right. you can also discuss this matter to any of the imam in the mosques.

seems like you kinda big headed about it too! lol
Well i dont get what you meant by saying you pay "part of Zakat?"
To be honest you need to look at what is necessary for you? i mean common do you need 5 cars? not like you can drive em all at the same time is it? is it something which you do to please your friends? get popular? or isit your way of making yourself feel better? i don't knwo the answer but its sumat for you to think about... sometimes the way we act usually has something to do with the way we grew up / inncidents on childhood....
I dont feel what you are doing is really benefiting anyone but yourself! i mean if you pay the full Zakat for what you have then i guess there isnt really an issue. But at the same time Islam teaches us not to be wasteful, and to me its a big watse of money. I mean there are people out there who dont have water to wrink let alone a car to drive in. I think maybe you need to go visit a 3rd world country and get bk to reality!
Sorry im being harsh but it's true. there are thousands of muslims and non-muslims dying every day coz of poor conditions.

I've got the same problem friend...
But you're 28, you earn - you spend!
So there is nothing wrong in what you do, this is what normally everyone does...
Infact i do the same things which all you've mentioned, but not in my own money... lol... All by my parents money, so i say that what i do is absoloutely wrong, i admit it... and i am also still 19, but what your doing is not wrong at all...
So keep going!
And bro, Porsche 911 GT2 is a bit old, why not go for a Lamborghini Reventon V12, it's the best on street! ;p
Cheers!

wow, ur a car addict! SELF-CONTROL BROTHER! the Prophet of Allah s.a.w said the strongest believer is he who can contain himself, or control his emotions or desires for this world. where are all those fancy cars going when u die? u said u pay PART of your zakat? wake up! u spend 10s of thousands of dolars buying cars and u cant even complete your zakat obligation?
give sadaqah, because this will erase the sins that you are cimmitting by buying those cars.
how about the starving children in africa? or the children being massacred in palestine? why not give money to them so they can eat at least one meal for the day?
please brother, i've seen enoguh of muslims being wasteful.
i hopw u at least thank Allah for the bounties of money He has bestowed upon u.
Ur sister in Islam

if your desire for cars is to obtain the newest fastest then yes you have a problem as these cars loose money as soon as it is registered in your name. but if you were to collect rare vehicles, or older ones that might not be quite so rare, and newer one of a kind type vehicles, then the value might go up. then your mother will be proud as you are making a good investment instead of just buying some fancy new sports car. if you can, watch the barrett-jackson car auction. you will get a good idea of what cars to buy. i wish i had the finances to be able to do what you are doing. with what that one porsche will cost you, i could buy a few cars that i like but we each have our own tastes. have fun, and drive safe.

Dear Linkin soldier ,
i used to have an obsession with fashion. but subhanallah i don't care about fashion anymore, i mean i still follow fashion :) but no more obsessed, because whenever i see needy people begging me for only 5 riyals! and some food this really affects me. i think this changed my way of thinking and living and i began to care about those poor people more than fashion ..
btw we are responsible for our money, we should spend money on things that please Allah..
any ways , Mabrook for the porsche ,, it's my favorite car btw ;) i might get it when we are allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia.lol
finally, there is a good article which i like to share with you, plz check this link out :

hmm, I am not familiar with your religion, and I am not sure what it preaches... but I would say from a human standpoint, if you have the money, and no one is suffering from your actions, than you are not hurting anyone, especially yourself. If these things bring you pleasure, then it is something you should do. when you get older, or your circumstances change, you may not have an interest in the cars whatsoever, and then you can give them to charities, if you can afford it, and then you will be doing good for others. that is not materialistic. give of yourself daily, in any way, and someone will benefit I am sure.
