I agree with you, it isn't that difficult. Of course, a lot of people seem to think otherwise. These are the reasons backing it, I believe: 1. Shorthand takes up less time. A lot of people don't want to waste their precious seconds with typing y and o to go with their 'u'. Furthermore, it's a lot easier for novice typists to skip out on that stuff. 2. A lot of people are truly unable to write proper sentences in English. Note that I'm not trying to insult anyone - it's just that the majority has difficulty understanding where a comma goes, and when you capitalize. That's really all I can think of. Hope this helped. -- Also, looking at the answers: Seriously, guys. This isn't about formality or informality. I have more difficulty reading shorthand than I do reading "formal English". Why? Because the English language's 'rules' - commas, periods, capitalization - help make writing understandable. Without it, it's like reading a bunch of run-on sentences, and that can give anyone a headache.

No, it doesn't bother me. I try to spell correctly most of the time but I have to admit, I do have typos sometimes. I think good spelling is essential to drive your point across and make your question or answer easy to understand. I really don't want to sit here and decode what you were trying to say.

You can tell when people make regular "typo" errors but then there are those that CANNOT SPELL TO SAVE THEIR SOUL! And that does bother me. It amazes me to see that people cannot use basic proper grammar and/or spelling in a simple typing forum. Don't you find that disburbing?

As for correcting them, I don't. I just let it go.

It drives me crazy when people spell things incorrectly while trying to say something rude about other people - like some girl said why are people so reatarded - but other than that I let it go.

I'm usually the one that does the correcting. I don't do it to flash my intelligence at anyone...not as if am famous for it lol. I just feel that no one wants to make a fool of himself saying things that are wrong. Correcting someone is an act of kindness.

edit: 1. The nick is Catsoul..one word. :)

I do not really mind, because I know that if those people would try to write in my own language (Greek!) they just could not do it!! For most of us, English is not our mother language and people should know that and do not try to correct minor mistakes. As long as what we write makes sense.....

  • Depends on the spelling error...if it is obviously a simple mistake or typing error, yeah...but if it is from ignorance such as making a detrimental statement about a political candidate or person/topic in the news, then no...research your facts before commenting.

    I haven't had that happen to me....possibly because I proof-read my answers and I use spell-check when I'm unsure of a word!

  • Only when it's a small typo. If someone can't spell every other word, then they should get a dictionary before posting a question. It happens all the time.

Source(s): EDIT - Looks will get you no where (if that's your real pic) if you don't know the difference between THEIR, THERE and THEY'RE. lol
