2000 Olds Alero heat problem, Help.?
This seems to be a common thing that happens... the fan for the heater has stopped blowing out air of the vents. It gave me trouble for a few days, it would work great, then stop, then work again, then stop... but it has completely died as of 2 days ago. Has anyone else had this problem and if you did, how much did it cost to get it fixed... I'm freaking out over here. Knowing this car and ALL the problems that have had. It won't be cheap. Any ideas?????

if there is no air coming from vents, defrost,or floor vent it's possibly your blower motor, fuse, blower relay, blower resistor or blower switch your blower motor should be located near glove box,tap on it slightly or wiggle wires going to it could be bad connection or bad blower motor ussualy run about 45.00 to $75.00 for a blower motorand about $65.00 labor

Need to find out it could be cold weather problem. Frozen bearings, or ----.
But try this things first.
Check the fuse (hope it is a circuit breaker and not a fuse, if it is a breaker you just need to reset it and see what happens), but it may be the heater element, or the blower fuse if it has the blower too. Some have only element. Some times the fan bladdes on the motor comes off too.
Check your coolant for perper mix so it it is not freezing up inside the heater coil or core.
If you can check all this.
Or take it to a friend or a dealer.
If the relay is frozen then put it in a warm garage for few hours then see if it starts working.
It is possible that it is working but we do have cold spell all over the country and so you are not seeing the results like you were able to see before this cold spell, check for that too, if you are taking a short trip there may not be enough time to get the element hot enough.
You can try putting in side the car "a drive-in cinema type" heater over night to see if you can thaw out the stuck(frozen)components. I had very good luck one time, my blower (wind shield) bearing and fan was frozen and coviling (cavity) had ice in it, after the few hours I turned on the blower and it blew out ice pieces. Dealer were too busy but gave me an estimate of minimum $300/- in 1988. They said they need to install new blower.
Every thing ran fine for years after this frick incident, it was a case of unsuall condensetion due to moisture accumulation.

How many miles??? The most common problem is worn out brushes in the fan motor. Another possibility is not enough coolant in system. Some cars with more advanced technology have a switch built into the cooling system that prevents the fan from engaging until the engine has reached a pre-determined temperature. This is a luxury feature that prevents cold air from being blown into the cabin before it is properly heated. If the sensor that controls this function (if your car has one) is not immersed in hot coolant, the fan will not operate. I hope this explanation helps. Check your coolant level!!!

Sounds like the blower motor has went bad. Even at a shop it will only run about 150.00 parts and labor.

visit autozone or Checker autoparts and notice in the event that they have an vehicle cooling equipment checker which you may use. you place this on the radiator and pressurize the equipment and it will practice you the place the leaks are. Sounds to me like it somewhat is a hose that is going from the engine to the heater middle.
