Microsoft Word XP from Office XP - keeps having to close when I launch it or open a document - why? Help!?
Here are the error messages etc.
Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
AppName: winword.exe AppVer: 10.0.2627.0 ModName: winword.exe
ModVer: 10.0.2627.0 Offset: 008248f2
It even does it when I try and compose an email in Outlook - Word fails to launch, and I have to use plain text.
It only seems to want to work in "safe mode"
Any solutions?

Usually this happens because the default Word template ("normal.dot") has become corrupt. Luckily the solution is easy, delete the corrupt file and Word will automatically create a new uncorrupt file the next time you launch it. To find out where your normal.dot file is kept, open Word in safe mode and do the following:
- Select the Tools->Options... menu item.
- Go to the File Locations tab.
- Click on the line marked User Template and hit Modify...
- This will show you the location of your various templates files, though you'll likely not actually see any file here. What you need to do is go back to your desktop and navigate to the same folder that you were just shown, in there will be a file called normal.dot and possibly one called ~$Normal.dot as well. Delete both these files and restart Word and you should be fine.
Note: you'll need to turn on the viewing of hidden files and folders to follow these steps, instructions for doing that can be found here:

Don't bother Googling. There is a Yahoo Search bar at the top of this page.
Answer:
Your MS Office is corrupt.
Go to the Control Panel, double click Add-Remove programs, select Microsoft Office, and after it highlights blue, select the "Change" button (and not the "Remove" button).
This option will allow you to repair Microsoft Office.

confident they're compatable. yet i think of you're barking up the incorrect tree. Get some extra memory and freshen up different purposes. test for undercover agent ware, viruses and don't commence up unnecesary courses once you boot. bypass to commence|run| sort in msconfig and uncheck any pointless courses that are beginning up.
