What do you think about the USA Patriot Act anybody think it's working?
If you think it's not working why would the government spend money and time on surveillance?

Truthfully, there is very little that the patriot act adds in terms of legal power to collect evidence. FISA court's are required in foreign surveillance and warrant's in most cases are required in domestic and the Patriot Act didn't really change that other than to add another layer of data that the government presumptively can monitor, such as credit card reports and library check out lists. But warrant's are still required. That said if anything might prevent terrorist attacks, it is not the law, rather it is increased public awareness and governmental spending. As to the contention that the patriot act somehow has prevented terrorist attacks. It has been six years since 9-11 and prior to 9-11 the only foreign terrorist attack was the first trade center bombing in 1993. Under the laws at that time it took an unchallenged al-Queda ten years to orchestrate an attack. Don't be fooled into thinking that anything we are doing can prevent another attack. If there is a will there is a way. We are probably about due for something. And where in all this do we consider the fact that prior to 9-11 Timothy McVeigh was the greatest terrorist in US history, there are still those among us that would do us harm and all of our attention abroad only benefits them.

I think the Patriot act and the creation of the TSA are a bunch of BS. They are "feel good" measures the Congress and administration dreamed up so they can say "We are looking out for you, we are doing something to protect you" As to why the government spends money I would tell you to examine what our tax dollars go to fund? I may ask my Rep for an earmark to fund the group I may put together, The society for the betterment of me. In my opinion we should be more aggressive and vigilant in our defense of this country. I can't believe people want to extend the hard earned rights of citizens to people who wish to destroy us and all that we represent.
