Windows 95, Windows 98,(and 98SE), plus you can use the lite versions of Linux. These OS'es will really do you the most good. One example would be Tiny Flux 1.0, if memory serves. You might find this webpage useful should you decide to use a Linux distro: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/iso Granted it states Ubuntu 7.04, but the principle still applies to Tiny Flux. Linux distro's,(distributions), use a whole lot less ram, and processor, plus don't need to 'bloat' your harddrive.

Try Damn Small Linux.
Or even Debian should be great on it. Install the netinst CD, then install some light weight window manager such as Xfwm or Enlightenment. In fact, I use such a Debian installation on an arcane box that is seven years old.

That would have came from the factory with Windows 98SE,
But since you don't want Windows you may want to try Ubuntu Linux. I have it running on some low level PCs but I have not played with it on a Pentium II yet.
Download it and try it. It is free.

You could run windows 2000 but it would be slow. For your best performance I would look at some flavor of Linux if you want to get into it.

You could run Linux with a lightweight GUI such as XFCE. Try a LiveCD from Xubuntu.
