UK QUESTION: Where is the idle air control valve located on a 1998 R reg ford escort?

look at no 3 plug, behind that is n3 injector then directly behind that is the idle air which is down by the big jublee clip that holds the air filter pipe on the injection system,,, just had a look on autodata,,

Idle air control valve - if this is an 'injection' - should be at the end of the accelerator cable, should be above or below the air mixture butterfly valve. It will be a small recessed screw.

The speedo cable is located on the gearbox - on the back side, near the final drive, before the diff.

SI - the I should be 'injection'; the S should be sports (at a guess)

All of these questions, (& others), can be answered by buying a Haynes manual. :)

the idle speed control valve is on the inlet manifold,its tucked right under neath,if you are haveing bad idle problem check the small breather valve which is at the front of the engine near the exhaust manifold,to check if this valve is faulty take it out and turn up side down if the plunger falls to the bottom its worn and then replace it,with the idle speed control valve it can be washed out,but this seldom works replace as a pair.the speedo cable is located on the gearbox,if you stand in front of the engine its on your right hand side,follow a cable towards the left hand side of the baulkhead and the follow down towards the gearbox,there maybe a sensor with 3 wires on it and the cable is screwed in this.

if it is fuel injection which i think it is then it should be at the end of the throttle cable and the speedo cable is on the bag of the gearbox if you get your car up in the air and go under the car where the drive shafts go in the gearbox then it should be just above you on your left
