Some animals and birds form kindred spirits. Coco will get upon the bed and lay near me, watching me when I don't feel well. Katie a chocolate Lab, will bark when someone comes to the door but will stand watch me get out of my car. She knows the sound of my car waits for me to love her which are several hard pats on her chest.

The bird feels bonded to you, not your wife or the random people passing by. She wants your company, and lets you know.

I think they can sense a kindred spirit. I have known several dogs and cats and parrots that were the same way. They seemed to bond to me even more than to their owners, even if they rarely see me.
