I have a 1 year old Lhasa Apso and she has a terrible Oder. What can I do to keep her from smelling so bad?

In the summer I bathed her about every third day. The vet said I was bathing her to often causing her to have dry skin. I take her to the groomers now once a month. The first week she smell OK then she starts getting this terrible oder again. I put baby powder on her but that doesn't help the smell. The groomer cleans her anal glands out each time I take her. Do all Lhasa Apsa have this order or just my dog?

Update:

No she does not drool. I keep her hair cut in a puppy cut. I bought her because she does not shed.

I don't see any stars on her food, but is the science diet dog food good for her? She loves popcorn so when I pop some I give her a little, is that OK? When my grandchildren come over and they are eating anything, they drop what every they are eating and Shasa eats it. She love turkey so tonight I gave her some turkey that I cooked. Is that OK. Would that cause an oder? Thank you

    what do you feed her? her diet could be a cause. make sure you feed high quality dog food and not crap X.x;

    http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/

check what "star" your dog food brand is, and look into getting a 5 or 6 star food from a pet store.. not a grocery or department store.

also, are her teeth and gums clean? i assume the vet would have noticed if there was any problems there though...

here is a product that helps odor control on stinky dogs

    http://www.dinovite.com/test-odor.html

    ADD:

science diet is a very low grade 1 star dog food. you could do a lot better than that, and shouldn't cost too much more either. and besides, better quality food means you can feed less.

popcorn is ok in moderation. but dogs don't digest corn well (neither do humans) but because it's popped it's easier, just nothing healthy about it, just starchy.

the main toxic foods to make sure your dog doesn't eat are: chocolate, rasins, grapes, nuts (mostly macademia nuts. peanuts are prefectly fine.) onions.. there's more but that's all i can remember.

turkey is fine, dogs do better eating raw meat, but cooked is alright. (you could look into raw food diets, B.A.R.F. on google) it's the healthiest way to feed your dog.

you could go hear to read up on the known causes of dog odor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog_odor http://vetmedicine.about.com/cs/dogdiseasess/a/sti... there may be no choice for you but to buy a product to keep it at bay.

but i would try changing the food too. btw, you could try adding a little bit of plain yogurt with each meal. the yogurt bacteria eat away at the gas that causes farts, -might- help with your dogs smell a bit, but better quality food without soy (beans) and corn, is best.

This is a fairly common problem not only with lhasa apsos but with pretty much all small, long haired dogs. Bathing your dogs too often can create dry skin and lead to a terrible order. For in between baths, there are many many different sprays you can use. There are also bath wipes you can use which are less harsh than using soap. They are both available at any petstore.

Brushing your dog's hair often, meaning everyday, can help get rid of some of the dandruff and dirt. Using a less harsh more natural shampoo such as an Oatmeal based shampoo will help from keeping the dog's hair so dryed out.

Remember to make sure to completely dry your dog after a bath, and to not blow air directly into the dog's face.

Do they clean her ears at the groomers? Ears can stink thats one idea.

Does she have bad dental disease?Halitosis can really send an order and some pet owners dont realize it, check her mouth and see if she needs a dentistry.

What kind of food do you feed her? Is it the supermarket dog food or a well balanced meal like Wellness or Eukanuba.

Does she have allergies? Scratch alot, roll over the floor to rub her body because she is irritated. Or lay on a dirty surface like the outside dirt and gets smelly all over again?

The vet is right when he said you bathed her frequently, but does the groomer do the anal glands monthly? Some dogs need it done sooner than that. If your dog is scooting(rubbing her butt on the floor that is an indication they have to be expressed) then that might be an answer too.

Also make sure her bedding is cleaned frequently maybe wash it every week and check her surroundings to make sure she is not laying on something dirty. Good luck!

I have a lhasa apso and she smells a bit whiffy sometimes when she sweats. I take her to the groomers once every two weeks, and bathe her lightly inbetween that time if she smells bad.

Does she drool? Sometimes dogs are drooly, and that leaves an odor.
