Well, I'm 15 and have some sort of a crazy harry potter fetish, so i thought I'd never find anything to replace it, but to my surprise i did! the twilight series by Stephenie Meyer, they are the best books ever written! if you aren't into those though you should try one of these:
♥The Golden Compass
♥The Spiderwick Chronicles
♥The Uglies Trilogy
♥A Great and Terrible Beauty
♥Charlie Bone
♥The Last Apprentice series is absolutely fabulous, you should definitely read it...
♥Eragon's really good
♥Pirates! by Celia Rees is really good
Hope this helps a little!

Absolutely. I think that many will agree when I say that finishing a good book series is like losing a friend. I really have become attached to the characters and story of Harry Potter, so I understand where you are coming from. I've been a Harry Potter fan for almost 10 years; I can't just let that go just because the books are all written and read.

Authors:
Dianna Wynne Jones
-Howl's Moving Castle and The Dark Lord of Derkholm are two of her simplest, Chrestomanci series is amazing
Eion Colfer
-Artemis Fowl is a series
-The Supernaturalists is really good
*The two above write well and creatively. Its easy to understand what theyre saying, many adjectives, etc.*
George Orwell
-Animal Farm is amazing. Its linked to the Soviet Union very cleverly. Dont let it throw you off, though. I've also heard that 1984 is great, but that it looses some of its "flavor" after the first read.
Steinback
-his books can be a little slow, but theyre still interesting. Some make you angry and can be hard on the emotions, but thats ok, aye?
Shakespeare
-As You Like It. His plays can be hard to understand, but if you read them outloud its a lot easier. You can also rent a movie of the play you are reading, and watch each act as you finish it. That can really help clear things up.
*The last three are a bit more.... advanced than Harry Potter, but its good to read something challenging.
An amazing book is To Kill a Mocking Bird. Its so well written, and really lets you see the south soon after the American Civil War. Its an amazing book with amazing characters.
Hope this was helpful!

Try the Chrestomanci stories by Diana Wynne Jones or the Snow Spider Trilogy by Jenny Nimmo. I also like the Hermux Tantamoq adventures by Michael Hoeye.
I'm 43 by the way but I love kids' books. To be honest though, I've not yet read anything that compares with Harry Potter. A few people will probably throw their hands up in horror and say, "What about 'The Lord of the Rings'?" but personally, I could never get into it.

hmmm .... what other kinds of books do you like besides Harry Potter? i bet you could find something similar by browsing the internet and doing a search for books by other similar authors.
Or maybe you could try a book club where they send you a new one every month. The science fiction and fantasy section of http://nbjmp.com/click/?s=26339&c=23567&subid=goog...
books might be a good place to look.

There's also the Eragon series of books by Chris Paolini about a boy who can communicate with dragons...you might like that if you're interested in Harry Potter.

I can reccomend the farseer/assasin trilogy by Robin Hobb or the magician books by Trudi Canavan.
I liked them better than Harry Potter.

Nothing as good as HP. I'm in the same boat. Try the Dark Materials trilogy
