I am a Muslim and I want to know which "KAAND" or chapter of Ramayana...........?

NO disrespect, no offence. I just want to add to my knowledge.

A lot of us are aware that it is our daily habit to refer to "LAXMAN REKHA" in our references every now and then.

To remind and to explain to the non-Hindus, 'Laxman -rekha' was the line which was drawn by Laxman, the younger brother of Lord Rama, for his wife Sita with instructions NOT to cross it when he was out in the Jungle.

This is often referred to as crossing Laxman-rekha if somebody goes beyond what he is expected of.

I hope I am correct in my explanation.

What I wish to know is that in which chapter or KAAND of the Ramayana this incidence is explained ?

...........

Update:

..............

I could not find the specific 'DOHA' mentioning about Laxman rekha in the 'Aranya Kaand' though there is explicit explanation as to how Sita was abducted by Ravana.

Could you plz be specific and reproduce the 'DOHAS' or verse, for me ? Thanx.....

Frndz, I do not feel offended by the remarks of ignorant people like RAJ

What amuses me is their consistant ability to ignore the responsibilty for a civilised society.

So do not feel sorry for them..........

.............

Update 2:

.............

Sorry folks,

you took so much pain to explain about the incidence which I happen to know already since it is tuaght in primary classes.

What I want is the specific DOHA or verse in Sanskrit wirtten in the Ramcharitamanasa which contains the words referring to Laxman Rekha. You can also inform the no. of the verse and translitrate it into Roman.

Hope I am clear

P.S. It is not that I know it and I want to test your knowledge. It is becoz of the fact that none of my friends could quote it so far.

It occurs in Aranya kaand .It is not referred to as Laxman Rekha in the Ramayan.so you won't find any specific reference in the Aranya Khand as "laxman Rekha " .You will find only a narration of the act of Laxman drawing the line and asking MamSita not to cross under any circumstances till he returns .

Since Laxman drew the line of line of safety that was forbidden to be crossed , it is refered to as Laxman Rekha by people .and applied to anything that is not to be crossed in the interest of safety.

so you won't find any specific name as "Laxman Rekha" in the Aranya khand , for the line that Laxman drew asking Ma Sita not to cross.it .

Please undersand that there is no offence in asking any question in so far as the Hindus are concerned .offenmce may result from commenting on the practices or philosophies without knowing them of taking any effort to understand them and or on the basis of mere assumptions contrary to logic and science .

You should not be hesitant in asking questions on any of the Hindu scriptures because Hindu scriptures have more to do with culture and ethics rather than religion. You will agree that a country like Indonesia with the highest Muslim Population enacts the Holy Ramayana without guilt or qualms. And let me tell you my friend, I have read the 'Holy Koran' although I am a Hindu and find Islam to be a great concept through which a society based upon righteousness, equality and justice can be established, now does that make me a lesser Hindu. No it makes me a wiser Human being. All the religious books and texts are a common heritage of humanity and should be treasured as such. It is the vested interests who divide humans on basis of religion, it is such a shame. And there are such ignorant fools in this forum who say such senseless things like the one mentioned above.

It is good being a Muslim you want to know about an episode in Ramayana where Laxmana drew line around the hermit where Sita was living with Rama, not to cross it during his absence. This episode took place in Aranya khanda. Sitha seing the golden deer she requested Rama to fetch the deer.for her. Rama ,to fullfil her desire took his bow and arrow and followed the deer keeping his brother Laxmana to take care of Sitha who was alone, while he went for hunting the golden deer. The golden deer is nothing but a demon servant of Ravana called "Maricha" who was killed by Rama while chasing. While dying the demon Maricha yelled" hey Sitha , hey Sitha" which was over heard by Sitha. She requested Laxmana to rush to the help of Rama his br0ther.. While going Laxmana drew a line with instructions to Sitha not to cross it during his absence. We call this as Laxmana Rekha,. In Ramayana it was not named as Laxmana Rekha

This has become a popular and we call any body who cross their l;imit and expose themselves to the dangers is said to have crossed his or hers Laxmana Rekha.

Lakshman Rekha, in modern Indian parlance, refers to a strict convention or a rule, never to be broken. It often refers to the ethical limits of an action, traversing which may lead to undesirable consequences. Example of use:

(Constitution is very clear on the roles of the Judiciary and the Legislature, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee said both should not cross the Lakshman Rekha.)

The LAKSHMAN REKHA you refer comes in ARANYA KHANDA of Ramayana, The full details is as under-

Lakshman Rekha, in the Hindu epic the Ramayana, is a line drawn by Lakshmana around the dwelling he shares with his brother Rama and Rama's wife Sita in the forest. The line is meant to protect Sita, while he is away searching for Rama. As explained in the epic Ramayana, Rama goes chasing a golden deer (which actually is the rakshasa Maricha in disguise), and does not return for long.

When Sita coerces Lakshmana to leave in search of his brother, Lakshmana who cannot bear to see Sita cry in grief, reluctantly decides to go and search for Rama, subject to his condition that Sita not cross the protective line he draws. Anybody other than Rama, Sita and himself attempting to cross the line would be singed by flames erupting from the line.

Once Lakshmana leaves in search of Rama, the Rakshasa king Ravana comes in the form of a mendicant and asks Sita for alms. Not expecting a trick, she unsuspectingly crosses the Lakshman Rekha to provide alms to him and Ravana kidnaps her in his Pushpaka Vimana.

Shri Ramacharitamanas, the popular rendering of story of Shri Rama does not feature the Lakshmana Rekha in the Aranya Kanda. However in Lanka Kanda Mandodari rebukes Ravan on his boisterous claims of valour by hinting that his claim of strength and valour is shallow for he could not even cross a small line drawn by Shri Rama's younger brother Lakshmana.

Radhey Shyam Ramayan mentions that the crossing of Lakshaman Rekha by Sita was done absent-mindedly by an anxious Sita only to honour the great Indian tradition of "अतिथि देवो भवः" (Atithi Devo Bhava): the guest is embodiment of a Deva (divine entity). Sita crosses the boundary line only to give alms to Ravana once he insists that alms cannot be accepted across a barrier as having a boundary in between was against the principle of free will of the donor.-

I do not know - because I do not know sanskrit and cannot read the original version.

I am deeply sorry for what some parochial moron has mentioned about your being a Muslim.

We dislike some facets of Muslims and Christians where they try to convert people and refuse to listen to other religions. You are not displaying that trait and you are most welcome to teach your religion and learn ours. I have many very close Muslim friends like you.

I too am a Muslim, & recall having been taught since childhood that Qur'aan sharif is the only Holy book which the faithfuls R supposed to read, study & assimilate.

Reading Hindu scriptures is not understood, much less apprecited by a believer Momeen like me. Sorry.
