Food Recommendations in Rhode Island?

I'm going to be in Providence for a few days for work, then spend two days in Newport. Any places you recommend eating? Preferably at least one place that you feel represents the food of Rhode Island (like a seafood place or other food they're known for).

If you are looking for seafood try Spain...while it is not represetative of "RI food" it is excellent and their seafood is all fresh...they have a website and have locations in Cranston & Providence. RI is also known for its Italian food (be wary of Federal Hill...it is crammed with guido's and the majority of the food is not even authentic as it is mostly owned by Greek restauranteurs now). If you want authentic real Italian food known in RI go to St. Barts Club on Sophia Street in Providence. When you're in Newport try the Red Parrot or the Brick Alley Pub...it is where most of the locals go...stay away from Blue Grotto...it is where all the grogs hang out. Also, Ten is way overrated...their sushi is nothing to write home about ... and their prices are laughable for the quality. If you want a great restaurant that serves seafood and steak go to Providence Prime/Oyster Bar instead (they also have a website).

As far as Spain goes...read their reviews...they get national attention...I would stay away from Blue Grotto though, they got in trouble with the health board...

Source(s): did my undergrad in RI and visit friends every year there...for more information check out www.projo.com and look at all their restaurant reviews over the past year.

On 55 Pine St., theres a beautiful restaurant called "10 Prime Steak and Sushi". Their food is delicious!

But if you aren't into that stuff, there's a place called ''Adesso".

Fabulous food and friendly service. Never had a bad meal there. It's at 161 Cushing St.

I have one more recommendation, my favorite, its called "Blue Grotto Restaurant". Its a beautiful and quiet restaurant, one of my favorites. Its located at 210 Atwells Ave.

There's also a place called Apsara on 716 Public St. and their steak is to die for. What else can I say about Apsara? Prices are cheap...another plus. It's just good food.

One restaurant I would never go to again is Spain. I went their with a boyfriend a few months ago, and the fish was wayyy under cooked. I sent it back and they were so rude!

Good luck & I hope you enjoy your meal where ever you go!
