Anti-Valentines Day?
I have always thought that Valentines Day is:
An unimaginative, consumerist-oriented and entirely arbitrary, manipulative, and shallow interpretation of a holiday.
Please don't get me wrong. I'm not jaded by past lousy V-Days.
Just wondering if anyone agrees with me?

Well, like most holidays that we celebrate, it has veered way off course from what it originally started as! Saint Valentine was really, what some believe to be, two different Christian martyrs whose feasts were observed on Feb. 14th. The fact that it follows a theme of love and courtship and all that mushy stuff probably came about because of a coincidence of the date with a Roman festival called Lupercalia, which honored the god of flocks and fertility (Faunus). The actually date of the festival was the 15th but I guess people had nothing better to do than to turn a day used to honor a Christian martyr into something that could be commercialized with flowers and chocolate. Why do we think that we can commercialize love??

Our youngest sis and I spend it together treating ourselves! We go out to lunch and buy ourselves chocolates and stuff. It's great. Apparently we agree with you its definitly overrated. You're more than welcome to join us this week to celebrate yourself.
