What do you think of the name Inaaya?
I am due in May and have pretty much settled on the name Inaaya (pronounces Ih-Neigh-Uh), but my family thinks it is strange and my mom hates it and thinks that I should name it after her. Which is Anne or Catherine, but I really like Inaaya and so does the dad and my older daughter, what do you think?
Well all of my kids have hard to pronounce names. My first is Safiyo (Suh-Fee-Oh), my second miscarried and is named June Angel, that is not hard. My third is a boy named Xassan (Hassan) and my last one is a girl named Khayro (cairo). I did name my first daughter Safiyo after my mom's grandma like Ipromised so her middle name is Bernice. My younger sister named one of her sons after my dad so my mom feels left out because my brother has a son nd my older sister named all her kids with unique names (Midnight, Eclipse, Obsidian, and Echo). So she turns to me to name one after her.
I told my mom that I did not have a hand in naming her kids and she never really complained about my siblings kids' names. My nephews are Josiah, Gabriel, Zackery, Rowland (after my dad), Davin, and George III. I even told her that I did not jump out of the womb and tell her to name me Debbie, so I think that I could name my own kids. But she still thinks that there should be one after her. Is it wrong that we named one after his mom (Khayro) and not mine? Plus I like the Arabic names, she said that she would accept the arabic forms of her name. I could not find one. Any suggestions on that?

I think the name is beautiful.. Stick with it. Don't let your Mom sway your decison. You could always name her
Inaaya Catherine
Inaaya Anne

Inaaya Catherine sounds nice and that way you can keep the name you like whilst honouring your mom at the same time.

It's very pretty but the only concern I would have is if everyone can pronounce it. If it doesn't bother you that she may always be called by the wrong pronunciation by teachers, strangers, friends, etc. then go for it! A unique name can really be beautiful, Maybe you can use Anne or Catherine as the middle name so you can compromise?

How about Inaaya Catherine
I like Inaaya I looked at it and got the pronunciation right away.
It is YOUR baby. Name the child what you want. It would be nice to put Mom's name in there somewhere though if it means that much to her.

Personally, I would like it better if it were pronounced (ih-nye-uh). BUT if u & ur husband both like it, then go for it!!! It's ur baby. Not ur mom's & not any of ours. Good luck & congrats!!! =)

I don't like it personally, but it's not my kid! You Mother sounds selfish asking you to name it after her!

I think you should listen to your parents.... just because you can give your kid a weird name doesn't mean you should.
Edit: What are you and your siblings trying to do? single-handedly over-populate the world with kids that have ridiculous names?
