Isn't tony jaa currently just the best martial artist alive?

Just like Pierce Brosnan is the best secret agent alive.

Tony Jaa is a film actor. Whether he can actually fight or not is debatable. (I think he could probably do okay for himself, but none of us have seen him spar/fight, so we don't really know.)

As far as I know Tony Jaa is a great stuntman. I know he does all his own stunts in his films. Like the jumping over the cars and stuff. He is from Thailand and does know and practices Muay Thai. So I wouldn't call the man useless or defenseless by any means. You cannot call him a great martial artist for he has no record or professional fighting background. His fight scenes are awesome though and very well choreographed.

Long answer. In my opinion being the best martial artist means competing against the best. No disrespect to Mr. Jaa but I feel people like Fedor, G.S.P., B.J. Penn, Anderson Silva, Semmy Schilt, Ernesto Hoost and a host of others are a better representation of being the best over an actor

I wouldn't call him the best "martial artist".

I would however call him the best martial artist stuntman/actor.

There are way too many factors that affect this question.

For example, if he fights in a ring with a good kickboxer/thai fighter, he would probably loose. If he goes to the ground with a BJJ blackbelt, he would probably loose.

I don't know if I'd call him the best, though I think he's pretty good. Of course no fight would go like it does in the movies, but his moves are good and he's very quick.

He'd own anyone with low to moderate MA skills, but after that... Well... I'd like to see.

Probably not. He's an actor who knows some martial arts.

Guys like Sakmongkol, Samkor, Buakaw, Anuwat, etc... would eat him alive without breaking a sweat. So no.

u guys r dumb!!!! why ppl think tat if u r actor then yr martial art is useless.....even for bruce lee ppl say tat no he is actor so he cant fight...dont forget tat these ppl r martial artist at first then actor....tonay jaa is only among those few ppl in this world who knows muay boran....he have competed in 5 muay thai fights n won all of those in first round...he have trained in muay boran,muay thai,wushu,coperia..he have spend almost all of his life training and his main career was stunt man...he have done so many stunts tat yr ufc guys cant do....i wont say tat he is the best but i will say ya he is damn good.....even yr ufc firgters cant demonstrate martial art like him..so for every question just dont give answer related to ufc...
