She is talking through her hat! My favourite response to people like her is. "Excuse me! Are you suffering from halitosis of the intellect. That's presuming you have intellect?" That almost always confuses them and not many are able to give a ready come back!!!

ignore her she's an idiot who doesn't know anything about real life. You aren't the type of person that makes Identity theft a reality, crackhead losers are. She's just trying to appear more intelligent, but failed. Next time she makes comments smile and walk away. You can't win with a person like this. No matter what she says in her eyes she is always right.

I agree with the people who posted before me, a.) she is an idiot, b.) you didn't do anything wrong and c.) just ignore her completely.
Identity theft is when someone steals personal information such as your Social Security Number, Bank information, and possibly your driver's license number. They then proceed to be- well YOU! They will open up credit cards and sign your name on unauthorized charges.
It's a good idea to consider having a lock on your mailbox or if you are home for the day, ask your mailman to personally hand you your mail.
And don't share personal information over a cell phone! Use a landline if you can.

You are absoluely right - she is an idiot. There was absolutely nothing wrong with what you did. Sounds like she is just showing her stupidity by not even knowing what identity theft is. I guess you cope with people like that by just realizing that there is always going to be an idiot like that around and just shrug it off. You know you are a good person. Don't let it worry you one little bit.

Just ignore her.
Finding out about someone, such as George Washington for example, does not make you an identity thief.
Only if you then assumed that identity would that be the case.

What classmate said that to you?! All you are doing is looking up public information! With individuals like these, I just stay away from them and keep busy with my own personal interests. Sometimes are you able to look up public marriage records and those may state real first names.

Identify theft occurs when a person with bad intentions gets a hold of somebody's personal information in order to steal or lie.
It is not the same thing as simple curiousity.

Tell her 'I'm Googling you next!'
If she really believes this is in anyway related to identity theft, she deserves whatever anxiety it may cause her.
