What do you think of Nicole Vaidisova's decision not to play Fed Cup anymore this year?

Her reason is because she wants to concentrate on improving her ranking. But how would skipping Fed Cup have any impact on improving her ranking? The WTA doesn't have any tournaments on the schedule when it is a Fed Cup week. She also said she still wants to play in the Olympics in Beijing. Should the Czech team allow her to be on the Olympic team? Your thoughts?

well if they decide to make a compromise for her wishes to play the olympics,i don't think it's such a bad idea. so many of the girls put alot of effort into playing for their country that it sometimes detracts their focus on tour play. it may not be scheduled during tourney action, but just think about her playing say that week before or that week after.

Hey I think it's a great idea on her part. US men do it all the time. She is a female so she is not as strong and doesn't have the stamina that men do and even though she doesn't have any WTA tournis during Fed Cup week she could still use the time to rest, recuperate, rethink her game and figure out how to improve her rankings. She does her part for her country ever time she plays N. Vaidisova (CZE) . If Czech Tennis doesn't like it she is welcome to defect to Canada. We need a woman of her skill level to play for us even if she doesn't play Fed Cup just shows up at all the Majors and has on the draw N. Vaidisova (CAN). Pretty sweet if you ask me. And oh yeah she can. She will improve her ranking for sure because Nicole V. can.

    Go Nicole V!

Oh and if the only way that they will let her in is if she marries a Canadian....well Maria Sharipova still hasn't got back to me so I am still on the market.

I think it's a smart move. I think that she should focus more on her ranking for the time being. Even though she is in the top 20, she knows she can do better, therefore she wants to put her concentration on succeeding at the events that actually count for something. I think she should be allowed to play for the Czech Republic in the Olympics. Nadal pulled out of Davis Cup for Spain, but it doesn't mean Spain won't accept him to represent them in the Olympics. So as far as Vaidisova is concerned, her decision to not play Fed Cup should not affect her chances of playing in the Olympics.

I don't see this as a bad decision. I see this as a smart move by Vaidisova, and maybe will benefit her as the year moves along.

Yes i think its a great idea for her to skip FED cup... VAIDISOVA is a player that lost alot of her consistency from 2006.... its a real shame, as the girl as very much talent and power...

its not just a matter of over playing.. sometimes taking on too much is more added pressure.. VAIDSOVA really needs to gather herself, and find out why her game has slided, and figure out the potential that she does have as a tennis player..

and yes i think they should let VAIDISOVA still play the olympics.... why would her country want to cut her off from it, when she is probably the best prospect for them to do well in the Olympics.. i also think top players because of the constant pressure and consistency should not have to play FED CUP in order to play Olympics.

i think this was a good idea, because this shows she is willing to step up this year and making a improvement in her game aswell as her ranking, but not playing for fed cup isn't really that big of a deal. I think she has great potential in making it in the top 10 again this year.

She was up front and honest about her reasoning. She could have played for 2 minutes, feigned injury, and then continued doing what she planned anyway. I think she probably has a good chance of moving up the rankings, but she def needs to focus on that.

I don't follow the world team games.

It is her decision. Czech republic is lucky that she agrees to play for fed cup... so they do not have the right to stop her from playing the Olympics. The requirement to play the Olympics was to play at least one fedcup... so she has... so she cannot be denied of playing for the olympics.

I would go along with the idea that if she wants to be in the Olympics, she should play Fed Cup. I think it's important to play for your country, and it should be an honor.
