On a spotted dog, is the skin a different color under the spots?

Note: please don't shave your dog for the 10 pts!

Sometimes, they have to shave part of a dog for an operation or something, so I figure somebody has seen if this is the case or not.

skin is typically pink under white or very light hair and black/dark under black to medium colored hair. for example a GSP (german shorthair pointer) if the arey liver and white patched with alight ticking the dogs skin will a majority white and where ther is ticking or spots the skin is dark. now..... they can have skin spots that are not reflected in the hair coat- you can see this when they are wet.

Yes, the skin is different colors under the spots. My dog is a beagle mix, she even has different colored spots in her mouth and on her tongue.

ussually, where there is a spot in the hair, there is also a spot in the coat.. not always true, but its the norm.

An all white dog will often have spots on its skin.

Source(s): Own Chinese Cresteds.. and have seen alot of puffs shaved down to a hairless cut.

Most of the dogs I know have a different colored skin if they have "spots"- as for something for a merle or a GSD where there is a different pattern, not always.

Depends on the dog and the spot.

My chi/cocker mix was white with brown and black spots. Most, but not all of her black spots had black skin under them. The rest of her was solid pink, under the white hair, brown hair, and some of the black hair.

Some spots will be on the skin and some won't.

Dogs skin may come in a variety of colors pink, white, beige. Be prepared to see pink, because usually that's what color it is what type of dog is it?
