Help with character name.....?

I am writing a fantasy book and need a name for my main character. It is a female who is headstrong, compassionate, tough, and special among other things. I need some outlandish but interesting names please. Thanks in advance!!

Update:

Thank you LJ K. I tried to come up with names but I am better at storylines and plots. The names I come up with sound either boring or ridiculous. I came here looking for ideas on what I should be thinking of, but I see one that really jumps out at me, I will use it... :0)

Update 2:

Ooops I meant IF I see one in my last edit. Amazing what forgetting one word can do...

Names that end in either "a," "y," or "ie," are antithetical to your purpose. Each of those endings create the diminutive form of a name. Example: Michael - Michaela, Kate - Katy, Anne - Annie. The strong name becomes "cute," "sweet," "childlike." So your best bet is to stay away from those types of names.

Monosyllabic names are the strongest of all: Kate, Claire, Dawn, Jade, Grace, Beth, Faith, Leigh, Elle, Brooke, etc. They stand alone; they're solid names.

Also strong, but with 2 or more syllables, are: Michael, Isabel, Caroline, Kathrine, Elizabeth, Lauren, Morgan, Lillian, Lillith, Autumn, Nichole, Jordan, etc.

Then you can take from other cultures, and/or mythology. Very strong: (Celtic from Link 1) Rhiannon, Genevieve, Maeve, Mavis, Meredith, Branwen, Morrigan, (Dutch from Link 2) Schuyler, Anke, Aline, Maryse, Alene, Marien (Gaelic from Link 3) Calynn, Kalene, Caitlin, Una, Ailis, Gaellis, Blayne, Allyn, Eryn, Meegan, Megan

Visit websites that give you names and their meanings. The links below can get you started. Click on the names and you'll get the meaning. Good luck with your writing!!

I would give you a list of names, but I've been told that I have rather bizarre taste in them. Instead, I'll give you a few tips on how to find/create names yourself:

    1. Namesakes. I've always been a fan of these. Pick something like a plant, or element and give that name to your character. 'Thorn' for example, would be a good one.

    2. Meanings. Go to a name website, and look up meanings that relate to your character. Change them around a bit, if you want. The best site I've seen so far is http://www.20000-names.com/

    3. Generators. If you want really exotic sounding names, then I suggest you Google some generators for them. The best two I've come across are http://rinkworks.com/namegen/ and http://www.squid.org/tools/names/

    I hope I've helped!

You could take almost any word fitting this character, a short and probably one-syllable word, and add 'ia' or 'dia' or 'ria' to it to make an 'outlandish' name for a female character.

    Just a suggestion. Otherwise--

    Tomasa

    Selincia

    Silencia

    Telaphia

    Phia

    Voorsh

    Kriale

    Precosia

and like that... hopefully you or someone will come up with something you like.

I actually think it's best when a writer comes up with names themselves, because he/she is the one who will be using them all the time.

But it's not bad to bounce around a few YA ideas with your own, so it can all work out to everyone's advantage.

    Luck with your book--
